Well it's reassuring to know that, having allowed it to happen in the first place, the SIA is truly fit for purpose!

Apparently one of the illegals was responsible for protecting the PM's car

Isn't it good to know that our 'government' takes these things so seriously?

About 2 days old I'd say, they have had over a month to act and revoked 150 out of 8000 licences, seems everything this country does to do with illegal immigration is doomed

There is in my opinion a simple solution, Deport any illegals the moment they are discovered back to the first safe country they passed through on route to the Free British bank and homes ltd.

The OP referred to the PM's cars being looked after by an illegal....that story is not two days old. Although I have to honest, given that the sub-headline is out of date I didn't click on the story.

Leaving the people who employed them as security with, um, no security. 8000 times. Fine, you, say, until someone's injured or killed in a brawl somewhere because there aren't enough door staff.

Mind you, a mate's dealings with the SIA when it was first set up (he was working as a doorman while doing a post-grad course) were, I recollect, chaotic. You can't turn a dysfunctional agency set up by Labour into an efficient outfit in a month, or quite possibly a year - IIRC the problems were that it was taking too long to get people cleared to work, so there was a shortage and prices for door staff were going up, particularly with later opening hours increasing demand. Result: pressure from the business community on the SIA to get through the backlog of applications quickly so they could actually operate securely. From there it's a short join-the-dots to rubber-stamping the whole In tray to satisfy the baying hordes, then finding out rather a lot of them weren't quite pukka.

Mr. Coaker: Applications received are currently being immediately checked and entered onto the Security Industry Authority (SIA) processing system. At 14 November the SIA had 17,220 applications in the processing system.

Valid applications which are not subject to further inquiries about qualifications, identification or criminality are normally processed in approximately six weeks.

Under a contingency plan adopted by the SIA two extra processing centres were set up to clear the backlog of applications waiting to be logged onto the licensing system. There is currently no backlog in placing applications onto the SIA’s licensing system.

The SIA has now deployed extra staff to assist with those complex applications which require further checks.

In other words they didn't have enough people to cope with demand and had to find extra staff and centres quickly. That's not a recipe for efficient operation.

There was no subheadline as you put it - the bit about the PM's car was mentioned simply because it was mentioned in the link given. So sorry to have wasted your time though......

Anyway, what's the betting that illegal guy is still responsible for the security of the PM's car? Frankly NOTHING this shambles of a government gets up to surprises me.

No need to be narky....I already said I didn't click on the line, so you haven't wasted anything. I was just pointing out that the article was referring to something that was in the news ages ago. I'm not blaming you for that...you didn't write it did you? This was the sub-headline I was referring to:

Same with me...it's somewhat ironic that the PM is being looked after by someone that their own shoddy border controls allowed in. But of course we're told there isn't a problem.

Phew -at least we don't need to get too upset about this as Jaqui Smith has just revealed that only 6,500 illegal immigrants were granted licences by the SIA and only another 4,400 who were can't prove they're entitled to work in the UK. That's OK then ....
