Unhappy Just been threw Hell

Been in hospital for about 2 days avoid Lincoln Country Hospital like the plague. I went threw a living hell. I take about 24 tablets a day to survive due to certain illnesses. While I was there I recived nothing but codine about 4 tablets. I have an infected bladder and im still ill now and in painDuring last night I had a high temperature and was given codeine and the good ol paracetemal. In the morning still have a temp. No antidiotics for the infection . I would have been better going to a GP for some medication. I take about 1600mg of Meptid per day for my normal pain as I have back and legs trouble amongst other numerous things wrong . I'm one good clean bill of health not.

The best thing was I had to have my taken twice due to students medics makeing a complete balls up over it. One nurse there tried to take blood and failed she hit a main nerve in my hand and now I have a twaging sensation in right hand all the time .

What a complete joke the place is

Re: Just been threw Hell

i know how you feel, my now ex girlfriend is in that place often and i swear the nurses/doctors their have no idea what so ever what they are doing.

Patients dont get cared for in that place at all, infact when i stopped there one night with her for support, there was an elderly lady pukin her guts out all over the place and shouting in agony for ages, not one nurse or doctor bothered to move, too busy talkin and watching tv, i ended up going in search of one in the end, which took a good 30mins .

Would never wish it on anybody to be taken to that place!

Thanks I just checked my discharge papers .I suffer will allergies like insect bites as I nearly died from an earwig. Now I have been given a clean bill of health with no allergies and have even changed doctor with out me knowing. These people don't even understand english . One of main problems is drinking water I have an allergy to floride. I throw up on it big time so its only pop or beer or spirts for me. So the first thing they do when I finally got admitted to a ward. Codine with water for yer pain.

Re: Just been threw Hell

Not the same hospital but the last time my missus was in she was totally out of it & I had to explain twice to the same nurse that "no that's not for injecting, it's for breathing in", I'm sure if I hadn't been there she'd be dead now. NHS? No Hope of Survival!

Re: Just been threw Hell

I worked in the Radiology dept of Guys Hospital, many years ago & I have never worked with any people more dedicated to their task, than they were...

If the opinions expressed in this thread are true, then I am sad for the people who care, that are still in the NHS, and, to an extent, I cannot wholly blame the ones who have ceased to care, either ???

The good old NHS eh!

I hope your health improves and the particular hospital you mentioned is investigated by the HCC (Healthcare Commission) . Please do complain and see it through, otherwise things will never get any better.

absolutely, well said

If resources were allocated to deal with actual problems, rather than diverted to meet 'targets' , then I believe both employees and patients would be better off, myself ....

Re: Just been threw Hell

I spend quite a lot of time in hospital myself and I know how hard it is in there. I have developed a hatred towards nurses (mainly) and a few specific doctors and it kills me to say I have had more care from the tea lady than any of the staff, but I know I will always have to rely on them in the end.

It doesn't help much I know, but I think if it's rest and care after whatever they do to you prior, I think it's best to just go home and recouperate. I can't eat their food, I end up losing loads of weight (one time down to 8st) and they most of the time I really don't think they care.

Good luck on your recovery anyway.

Just watch Micheal Moores 'Sicko' and you'll think the NHS is as good a the best private care going that's what gets me. I've had to wait 14 months for a brain scan once for a suspected berry aneurysm. Hmmm 1st class....not.

Re: Just been threw Hell

The unfortunate thing I find from the past couple of years is that there are a few good people in the NHS and a large number of not so good people.

I tend to find that so long as you understand your condition (or that of the relative you are there for) and keep an eye on them it works well - although there are several doctors that would be lethal if looks could kill when you ask them a question or to explain something.

My wifes uncle was in hospital after a stroke and having spent years on morphine to thin his blood, the nurses refused to give him his dose one night because "The doctor didn't write it up on the chart". Turns out they'd not copied things properly onto the new sheet when the old one filled up - and the old one miraculously went missing when her aunt went to complain!

That's without mentioning the doctor who tried to send her dad home because he hadn't complained about his chest pains enough. "Oh yes, I'm enjoying this bed here by the window with no curtain that has a 24/7 security light on outside and a generator on below the window." For the record he had to have a stent put in because the one from the year before had blocked by 70%!

Anyway, that's enough ranting!

The NHS is good in a crisis and (kind of) works if you understand your condition and help them along - otherwise it's pretty much hit and miss. IMO anyway!

Re: Just been threw Hell

99% of the NHS staff we've had dealings with over the years since my wife was diagnosed have been fantastic & I know they have to do as they're told by management. Management on the whole have absolutely no idea what it takes to run a hospital properly & shouldn't be in the job, put people in that have worked on the front line of healthcare & improvements will follow pretty swiftly.

Re: Just been threw Hell

Fortunately I have never been to hospital, but I know people who have. Most have had an average ('It was okay) stay, but one person was given an Iodine injection even though the notes say allergic to Iodine.

Re: Just been threw Hell

My brother has had a permanantly dislocated shoulder, with his tendons stretched twice to what they should be. He was referred to the local hospital 2 years ago. He has been to 3 different hospitals/consultants since and is now on his fourth. he finally had a date last week to have an MRI scan. The annoying thing is all 3 surgeons he has seen has said they were able to operate, but would like to pass him to another who was more experienced/for second opinion. His latest surgeon has said if by the time his scan results come through his waiting list has increased, he will have to be referred back to the 3rd surgeon. Seems to me like he is just being shunted from list to list, trust to trust. The poor guy is in constant pain, with the only available painkiller that would work being Morphine. He has refused this as he has had to return to work (he used up his 6 months sick leave) on light duties as he doesn't want to lose the job he has had for nearly 13 years and go onto benefits. He is currently surviving on 2 to3 hours interrupted sleep a night. On his last check up they told him all the muscle tissue in his shoulder has gone so months of physio when he finally gets his op. He's gone from 12 stone to 9 and half. I just hope I never have to use the NHS any time soon.

Unfortunately you will find that the reason he gets shunted from pillar to post is so the consultants meet their targets. The NHS is completely target driven and the real people have become forgotten in it
