The tax man cometh....
I was up fairly early this morning . I had been working all night ,on my own whilst most of the country either was out socialisng or sleeping.
I heard the sound of a vehicle on my street and being nosey, i had a peep out and spotted the mobile car tax checking van. These guys prowl the streets and car parks and clamp any untaxed cars.
I must add that i have no issues with this and i think its great that if i have to pay my road tax then so should others. Its good to see that there is now some actual enforcement action going on. I have also seen several mobile patrols parked up around the city with cameras on tripods etc.

Re: The tax man cometh....
They patrol with the police near me.
If they are going to take a vehicle there are usualy 2 or 3 police cars with them.
It is usualy done at about 8am because the scally's have only been in bed about 2 hours then.

Good idea ! but no,its just a mounting point for cameras. In my area their MO seems to be to seek out untaxed cars, clamp them and then put a big sticker on the windscreen. Presumably this is in an attempt to get the miscreant to swell the chancellors coffers with back tax. If that fails, they come back later and lift the car. It really is all about money you see.

Err ... yes, it is. It's a tax, the purpose of which is to raise money. Why do you have a problem with the authorities taking measures to secure payment of tax?
You seem to inhabit a strange world where druggies, teenagers and Poles are all criminals sent to ruin things for you, meanwhile motorists are all saints who can do no wrong, even when refusing to pay their legal dues for using their cars.

It's a good idea, they also do it round here, if the car anit taxed there is also a good chance it anit mot'd or insured either..
At least this way there is one less scroats car that can run into the side of me and not have to pay for the damage.

Wow, great post Chris - way to jump down the guys thoat!
At what point did he say that he had a problem with ' the authorities taking measures to secure the payment of tax'?
Just in case you missed it, or would like to read it again to assure yourself that you have gone off at the deep end on this one, here's an extract from the OP's original post where he says exactly the opposite (I added the bold bits, for emphasis ):

Oh Chris, you have me all wrong. Can i refer you to my initial posting on this thread in which it is, or should be clear that I positively celebrate and support the good works of our vehicle excise avoidance team as pictured.
There are three vehicles in my household and all are roadworthy, taxed and insured...hurrah.
As an aside, i wonder if i should have asked permission before taking the picture? In mitigation i can only say that i took steps to conceal identifying features using the eraser tool in Adobe photoshop.
As for collection of taxes, well yes,in a civilised society it is necessary to secure funds for a central source so that that money can be spent on stuff that is for the greater good of the populace. sadly it does sometimes get squandered on mindless rubbish but then there is so much of it after all so its no surprise that some is wasted.

Re: The tax man cometh....
Mate, there is a clear and obvious difference between your OP and the one I replied to earlier this afternoon. How can you be in favour of these things one minute, and then decrying them as being 'all about money' the next? The implied criticism seemed clear enough to me, although naturally I apologise if I have you all wrong.

Re: The tax man cometh....
No worries..and no need for an apology. Its easy to make an error and post something without reading the OP. I've done it myself. The important thing is that debate stimulates the mind and we all get to think and interact instead of vegetating.
