Unfortunately I have to agree with you on that one

BBC news 24 have interviewed out PM on the situation, he says that "the world is watching". I can't see that watching and imposing sanctions are going to help the situation. That doesn't help the majority of the population.
The world is watching Zimbabwe, but that doesn't appear to be helping the humanitarian situation either.
There is no easy answer to either of the above I'm afraid

If you want a laugh go to the official state web site and read their interpretation of events.

Thousands of protesters are back on the streets of Burma's main city Rangoon after overnight raids in which monks were reportedly beaten and arrested.
Police are reported to have fired shots at demonstrators. Witnesses said at least one person collapsed.
Witnesses said soldiers stormed six monasteries overnight, smashing windows and doors and beat the sleeping monks.

And so it carries on, and it appears there is nothing any one can do apart from talk

Re: Burma march largest in 20 years
The world could do something, but China, India and Russia are more interested in their own strategic and commercial interests than in the people in Burma. So, the UN is powerless while the Burmese government shoots its people. Nice one China...

Re: Burma march largest in 20 years
The biggest irony is China urging 'restraint' on the Burmese Junta.

Have to agree with that. They are not really a mover & shaker in rhe world. I think that you will find that when this reaches it's conclusion, one of it's 'trading neigbours' will want to take control of the country, for it's 'own safety' at the outset. And then over time......

Because there's no UN resolution clearly giving permission, and last time action was taken in that situation the world condemned it.

Re: Burma march largest in 20 years
i've been on marches, signed petitions but what can we do when the west supports actions like this?

Blackwater is now the focus of investigations in both Baghdad and Washington over a Sept. 16 shooting in which at least 11 Iraqis were killed. Beyond that episode, the company has been involved in cases in which its personnel fired weapons while guarding State Department officials in Iraq at least twice as often per convoy mission as security guards working for other American security firms, the officials said.

A largely rural, densely forested country, Burma is the world's largest exporter of teak and a principal source of jade, pearls, rubies and sapphires. It is endowed with extremely fertile soil and has important offshore oil and gas deposits. However, its people remain very poor and are getting poorer.
