06.29.07, 12:44 PM ET

LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Virgin group's Richard Branson and private equity group Permira's Damon Buffini lead the list of businessmen chosen by Prime Minister Gordon Brown to be members of the new Business Council for Britain.

The council will 'promote the long-term health of the UK economy', Brown said yesterday.

It will meet twice a year, chaired by a senior business person and report to government and parliament, Brown added.

The council will examine the progress the government is making to improve the business environment in areas critical to the future of the economy.

Brown said it would have the power to conduct reviews on the areas it believes will 'determine the future economic well-being of the UK' and where issues are 'particularly important' make recommendations for reform.

Downing Street released the list of 15 names this afternoon. The full list is as follows:

Sir Richard Branson: Founder, Virgin Group
...
Sir Rod Eddington: Director, News Corporation (nyse: NWS - news - people )
...
Sir John Parker: Chair, National Grid
...
Sir Alan Sugar: Chair and CEO, Amstrad"
...

This is the same Buffini that asset stripped the AA, sacked 30% (over 3,000)of the patrolmen, then admitted a year later they couldn't cope with so few patrols?

Long-term health of the UK economy eh?

I think the idea is to asset strip England and use the cash to shore up the other principalities bids for total emancipation from the UK.

Now where did I put my flame proof suit?Just in case everyone has lost their sense of humour..
