Idiot kids risk their lives on roads..
I have noted in my area of Manchester, what seems to be a new trend amongst our apparently disaffected and stroppy youths. On a number of occasions in the last few weeks i have observed young children, up to perhaps aged 13,deliberately jay walking across busy roads when they see traffic coming in what is apparently some mindless game of chicken.
On one occasion, one of the simpletons even lay down in the path of an oncoming van, only jumping clear at the last minute!
The most recent incident was on a very busy main road on which there have been several deaths in recent years. Because of this, the misguided council have put loads of pelican crossings along its length at great expense.
A group of idiots was taking it in turns to stroll across the road,in the path of traffic, only about 10ft from one of the crossings! I had reached for my camera but was not quick enough to snap them.
No doubt, when one of them gets his/her thick skull crushed under a vehicle, their parents will be dragging wheelie bins across the roads and demanding speed humps.

Get your local rag onto it, that'll generate some publicity and then the police will do something about it. That's how it seems to work in my neck of the woods, anyhow.

This is how that motorcyclist got injured.
Kid ran out infront of van, didn't see there was a bike in the outside lane, got past the van but there was nothing the biker could do.
Kid died, bike was trashed, and biker was seriously injured both mentally and physically. Recently won his case for compensation.

Evolution in action; unfortunately, also affect the vehicle driver.

A truly outstanding statement!!
As for this new trend, it apparently started ooop North, but has spread. Its a known problem that has been much publicised in the Bike press, but hardly a mention in the Nationals

Re: Idiot kids risk their lives on roads..
I get quite irate with our students because they wait until the local traffic lights are green for the traffic THEN decide to cross.
I've complained soo many times to the relevant staff and to the idiots but It's doing no good.No one ever says a word to them.

Coggy, get a set of ladders and take the bulb out from behind the green lens, see how long it takes them to figure it out

I did think at one point it was about colour blindness but even the females seem to have this problem..It's just a case of over familiarity with traffic and a sense of invincibility that plague teenagers.
However one of the students is at present in the Intensive Care Unit at Southampton General after some weird bike accident where he appeared to have been hit twice by passing traffic after going **** over head over a parked car (according to my sources). The kids do seem to have become a little more cautious thus far.

Re: Idiot kids risk their lives on roads..
When we came back from Vegas last year, we were just driving back from the airport, turned the corner and almost ran over two blokes who were just meandering the middle of the road. OK, it was a side rode, but it leads off to a busy carpark, so a lot of cars go along it during the day.
Luckily, the 4x4 (yes, I know I complain about them, but it had 4 adults in, three of whom had luggage, so I think it was justified) we were in had fairly good brakes.

Re: Idiot kids risk their lives on roads..
I had thought the occurrences of this round our way were just isolated incidents. You get thinking "How can people be this stupid?". Sadly it seems not!
I'm curious about the legal perspective in a case like the one for the motor bike and TraxData's arctic. While what's happened to the kids is a bad, they got there through their own fault. Most drivers make basic assumptions on the sanity of other people on the roads when driving. How do we stand if these assumptions are proven false by idiot kids who left their one braincell at home?

Re: Idiot kids risk their lives on roads..
While a lot of people have been complaning about the Gvt coming down with tougher laws, It might eventually prove the right thing to do. Country's like Singapore have serious laws and people think a 1000 times before taking the wrong step-though a lot still do it i suppose! A little bit of fear towards the law might prove a useful deterrent as a lot of people don't seem to have any respect for it!
Its a sad thought when u start wondering what can be expected of today's kids!

Re: Idiot kids risk their lives on roads..
The area that I live in Manchester is over run by children on mini bikes we even have a special help line to report them.
http://www.thisistrafford.co.uk/most...road_bikes.php
How one of them has not been killed is beyond belief. I drove off a roundabout on Friday and had to do an emergency stop as one of the idiots having taken a short cut through a Petrol Station shot out of the forecourt straight in front of my car. Luckily the car driver behind me had quick reflexes because when we got out of our cars you couldn't have put a sheet of paper between our bumpers!! He called the police but as the mini bike had no reg.no. there was little they could do but tour the area hoping that the little idiot would show his face. They did catch two children later on Friday night as they played chicken at a busy crossroads. I understand one was 13 and the other 11-bikes confiscated thank goodness.
One local family is now complaining that they have to find the money to replace their little darlings bike because the big bad police took it and had it crushed.
