So, what do you think of the government ?
With it being very likely that Gordon Brown will be taking over from Tony Blair, how does everyone feel about it ?
Are you happy ?
Would you prefer that a new election took place for a new party right now ?
Will the new PM be a big improovement or is it time for a change from Labour ?
There is something I don't seem to like in Gordon Brown.
I personally think we would be better restructuring everything and having a new general election for a new PM that will reflect what the whole Uk want and the party that the majority of people want to be elected.
I just feel we need a change.

Re: So, what do you think of the government ?
The biggest problem facing this country right now is the lack of a fully fledged opposition. It's the only reason Labour have lasted as long as they have.

I think Gordon Brown shouldn't be PM because he is good at looking after the economy but looking after the interests of the British people is completely different.
Look at John Major, he too was a Chancellor of the Exchequer before becoming PM and later collapsed the economy. Gordon Brown is good at the economy but I don't think he will be a good PM. I guess we will wait and see.

I'd like an election but only really because the current lot have proved that they aren't responsible enough to be in power. Unfortunately I don't think that the Tories would be any better.

Maybe my dream will come true and the Queen will dismiss the government *sigh*

Paul is bang on there...
Even so, I think its better for a new, fresher perspective on things by a new party... Even if they aren't m uch better themselves.

Hasn't Blair got to go before her and hand his resignation to her? Being the Head of state and all that, she should demand an immediate General Election.

Yes he has to hand his resignation in.
She doesn't have to call a general election though.
Would be nice if she did.

I personally agree with having a General Election, as the local elections bear no real or little resemblance as to how the country 'feels'

Re: So, what do you think of the government ?
In Stoke on Trent - Labour could put a chimp in for election and it would get voted in, just because of the decline of mining and the potteries during the Tory rule.
To be honest things havent got much better under Labour more potteries have closed. Labour have been in control of the city for 30 odd years and were voted the worst council in the country, yet people still vote them in - go figure. For gods sake give someone else a chance to make it a little better!
Gordon Brown is a clown, a true Labourite we will end up going back to the days of Old Labour, the economy will crumble and unions will rule the roost. It is the beginning of Bust for Britain the moment that man comes into power. Look at the cock up he has made robbing from the pension fund...now many of us will have to work until we die.....thanks Gord!

Yeah, that is what I'd want too.
We havent really had any say on whether we want Gordon Brown as our leader.
The way the local elections have gone shows that a lot of people are leaving Labour to go elswhere so allowing the nation to decide would be a much better sollution.
Thankgoodess, it isnt going to be another 10 years until the next general election.

I agree. Any change will give a bit of a shake up and this could try to iron our current problems. I'm sure it can't make things any worse.

Re: So, what do you think of the government ?
Ok...... So what kind of government would we all like to see come to power then?
It`s not a trick question, just say what you would like a new government do for the country.
I personally, would like to see jail sentences fit the crime and the abolition of the ` Human rights act` . You do the crime, You do the time.
If you`re caught carrying drugs or weapons. Minimum of 15 years.
Less cushy jails and harder sentences for Rapists, murderers, peadophiles etc.
More enforced community service and if it`s not carried out to the letter, a longer jail sentence.
This country has become so weak. Criminals walk away from all sorts of crime that would be punished very severely in other countries.!
Just my thoughts on this.
What do you all think?

Re: So, what do you think of the government ?
I don't want a Scottish PM.
And neither do I want a Welsh or Irish one either. Despite GB's recent displays there will always be a lot of pressure on either to do what's best for their region as opposed to the UK as a whole. Regardless of what his detractors tried to prove, Blair is more English than Scottish and I found that margainly more comfortable.
