Re: Police Officer Shot Dead
R.I.P to the officer
I feel it wont be long until all our police will need firearms, batons are no defence in the growing gun culture.

Re: Police Officer Shot Dead
That's it. The criminal is armed, but the police are not (not counting having to call in the armed response, by which time it's too late)

Re: Police Officer Shot Dead
so if we give them guns in response to gun crime, do we give them knives to respond to knife crime?
Tragic for the officer involved in this case though... thoughts to his family

No, a gun will be just fine... I wasn't suggesting that we arm them all, just making a point that the criminals are better armed than the people tasked with stopping them.

Hopefully not. There might not have been anything the officer could have done if he had been armed and the person was lying waiting for him. Thankfully the death of a serving Police officer is still a rarity.
Personally I'm not sure if I'd want to carry a gun about at all times.

It's a scary thought. I hope not.
I think.
Can't help feeling that as long as the 'baddies' have the guns and not the 'goodies', guns will be seen (in the most part) as bad things.
God, what an awful few days it's been. Maddy, the two kids found dead in London and this.

I know where you are coming from, I would love to go back to the days when the bobby on the beat had respect but sadly these days they dont, its getting more and more like the US every day and there isnt much we can do about it

The 'bobby on the beat' is only going to get respect from those who are not breaking the law. The same thing could have happened before.

This is the main problem with gun control as we have it, the criminals are armed and the cops and citizens aren't. The criminal is 99% certain the person he points his gun at won't have one to point back, and neither will anyone else around him.
Gun control which removes firearms from the hands of people who are responsible with their use, makes us safer how exactly?

Re: Police Officer Shot Dead
Thoughts goto the family.
Many have looked at giving the police firearms, however there is a catch...
If you give the police pistols, the perps get Semis, give the police semis, the perps get full autos, and it goes up and on.. to the point where theres gun battles.
What needs to happen is more control over how they are getting the weapons.

It reduces the level of weapons which can fall into the hands of criminals and if weapons are found in a house or car the chances of them being legally held are virtually none.
As it was this was an armed officer so there must have been an allegation of firearms at the call.

In the meantime, police shout "Stop"! Or I'll say "Stop" again.
What they want is to make good example of people who just get caught carrying gun/knives in the 1st place, and I mean harsh sentancing, not the slap on the wrists they get today. Something as to be done to not let us have the kind of gun problem other countries have.
