So was it tissue or organs?

I've been following the tissue sample story from Sellafield that's been in the news, and noticed something.
On all the actual reports I've seen, it mentions tissue samples, people they've interviewed who worked on samples made a point of stating how tiny the samples were, which were used in making microscope slides.
So, are the BBC guilty of more tabloid journalism with article titles such as "Organ removal inquiry widened" especially when the only other mention of organ in the article is in reference to the person investigating also having investigated Alder Hey hospital?

Re: So was it tissue or organs?

'Organs' are obviously made up of 'tissues'.
iirc (and I last did histology in 1991), in order to mount a 'tissue' on a slide for microscope examination, you have to remove all or part of the organ that you want to get the 'tissue' from, prepare it and slice it into very thin slices....before fixing those 'tissue' slices to a slide and looking at them....

Re: So was it tissue or organs?

The organs would have been removed as part of the autopsy though surely?
My understanding of it is that the company asked the coroner for samples.
I've not seen any official suggestion that organs were taken, other than the BBC's headlines.

And when a coroner removes organs as the normal part of an autopsy to take samples, those organs are generally replaced one the autopsy has been completed aren't they?

Re: So was it tissue or organs?

I don't know......but here is a ......link

That speaks of freezing the organ/tissues prior to slicing but I'm sure that the organ can also be prepared by replacing the fluids in it with a silicon type substance....maybe someone else on CF knows more about this.....
