Re: Miners' fund fraud probe launched
I think It's sad. My Grandfather died in 1978 from pneumoconiosis (aka miners disease). He had been ill for at least 15 years prior to this, living only with the 24 hour oxygen supply he had. My gran was a widow from '78 until she died in 2002 aged 90. She had applied for compensation when the scheme was introduced but sadly died before she had anything. She had a measly state pension to live on in a council house she had rented for 50 years (due to my grandads illness they couldn't afford their own place).
But she was lucky. She has a huge family and we all adored her and looked after her. What about the people who have no-one?
If these allegations are deemed to be correct it's a very sad reflection on our country/society.

You can still make a claim on behalf of your grandfather when he was a miner, my dad before he died of the dreaded miners disease
made a claim on behalf of my grandad who worked down the mines for 50 odd years, last month the claim was settled and my uncles and aunties got £16,000 on behalf of my grandad for his death which was caused by dust from the mines. Give a claims company a ring mate and they will talk you through it, failing that if you want my sisters number at Vendside she'll send you all the papers, the service is free because your grandad is no longer here with you.

Re: Miners' fund fraud probe launched
hey nidge , so thats ok is it, charging the sick miners fees when they have already been paid? Each law firm/lawyer has to be challenged in court to reclaim money, some have already been paid. There are over 400,000 possible claims from god knows how many blood suckin lawyers screwin the sick. So looks like nothin has changed since the days of "no body, no claim" they are still being screwed. btw i'm an ex miner, i too have lung disease.

Re: Miners' fund fraud probe launched
When is the Law Society going to get tough with dodgy lawyers???
Around the same time some ministers actually resign due to their ineptitude and/or dubious dealings probably.
Could the well established link between the legal profession and our glorious leaders be the reason?

Never said it was mate, you see the difference between solicitors and the claims handling firms is, the claims handlers act as a middle man charging a fee which they are allowed to do, Vendside have invested millions of pounds in test cases claims like deafness, vibration white finger, and most of all the chest cases. If it wasn't for Vendside LTD investing millions of pounds in test cases there would have been no compensation at all for the sick miners, Vendside have also won test cases for women who worked in the hoisery trade, look out for a new claim thats going to hit the streets women who worked in the hoisery trade are going to be able to make a claim for chest complaints due to the fabric dust, Vendside have found out that fabric dust is the same as coal dust when it settles on your chest.
You see if it wasn't for Vendside LTD there would be none of these claims for ex workers wether they were miners or hoisery workers. One woman I know got £2,000 for a deafness claim, her bill from Vendside was for £65, now that's not bad if you ask me.
It's ok poeple dissing the above mentioned company it's the solicitors who are making a killing not the claims hadnling companies, ask John Mann MP how he's going to pay the miners legal fees for the case he loat last year when he tried to sue Vendside? Ex miners remortaged their houses to fund the legal battle because he said victory was certain.
Ask John Mann if he's put any money forward for test cases? Ask John Mann how many ex miners in his homeland of Worksop have benefited from millions of pounds in compensation payments thanks to Vendside's investment in test cases against the Government and the ex employers.

Thanks for the info Nidge, I beleive it's something my family are already looking into.
Looks like deep mining is starting to take off again in the valley where I live. They are opening a big site 3 miles up the road, I beleive the plan is for the Tower colliery workers are going there when Tower closes. The team behind this also have future plans to open another 2 large pits. The business men are all for it. Some young people asked about it are for it (swayed by the decent pay packets to support young families I suspect).
There is some opposition from people in the village right next to the site. These people are the older generation who have seen first hand what the coal dust does to men young and old.

With all due respect Nidge I think you'll find that anyone armed with a telephone, a modicum of common sense, the will to research and the telephone numbers of the HSE & the DTI's CHCS would have as much success in claiming - without the need for a "middleman" fee.
The company in question are not a legal firm. Indeed, by their own admission they "work alongside a preferred panel of Solicitors". They are a Claims Management Firm (see:"middleman") who charge a fee for something that can be done / researched for a pittance and which is a legal entitlement under current statutes.
Interestingly they endeavour to boast of their registration here when, in actual fact, it was their and their ilk's very same activities which brought about the necessity of the legislation which regulates their business and which came into force on Tuesday.
How many "test cases" would one realistically be expected to require before a precedent or statute of law is established? Ask yourself that.
It pays, literally, to read the smallprint.
"In the event, that you receive a valid offer of compensation you will receive an invoice for 25% (inclusive of VAT) of the compensation, up to a maximum of £2,500 per agreement."

Fair enough but without Vendside providing their serevice the moners wouldn't have had the money they've had, I know some ex miners who aren't against paying the fee, not all Ex miners have got to pay the fee, only those who are in work or those who are not in the UDM, I don't think that's bad to be honest.
If your claim is for £5,000 the fee payable to Vendside is just over £350 for their services, like I mentioned above if it wasn't for Vendside there would be no claims be processed, some ex miners round our way have received over £20,000 for vibration white finger, they are still working doing other jobs.
