MP's Christmas Cards
I have delayed posting this issue as I did not want to appear a killjoy over the festive period! A few days before Christmas I received a card from Shahid Malik, M.P. for Dewsbury, Mirfield and Heckmondwike. In the same post my Wife and Daughter received a separate card addressed to them jointly. In both cases the cards arrived in franked envelopes marked "House of Commons" and were sent by first class mail. The cards themselves had colour pictures and text on all 4 sides. I don't know if this is a widespread practice but I was certainly not expecting a Christmas card from my Member of Parliament. My concern here is the cost and how this exercise was financed.
Whatever the source of the monies used to produce and send these cards I simply feel that the money could have been put to much better use, e.g. NHS. Yet again it seems that whilst this Government is prepared to pump unlimited sums into Iraq it is unwilling to spend on worthy causes such as cancelling hospital deficits and, as a result, we see waiting times in A & E at unacceptable levels. Surely in some small way the Card money could have been used to help especially if other MPs do the same.

Re: MP's Christmas Cards
Was there a reason you received a card from your MP, had you been in contact with him over something. I only ask as I (along with the majority I would guess) have never met my MP nevermind received a Xmas card.

Re: MP's Christmas Cards
I get a Christmas card as well.... with a little calender too.
I do prefer to receive cards from friends and family though. It would be better if the money spent on cards went to something else to help the local community.

Re: MP's Christmas Cards
We used to get Christmas cards from our local MP but they seem to have stopped sending them now.

I have never contacted my MP although I did receive an invitation from Mr Malik to become a member of a resident's panel a few months ago. I did complete the questionnaire he sent but my Wife and Daughter were not contacted at that time so presumably the cards had nothing to do with that. I certainly can't see the logic in sending 2 cards to one household.

Some doctors don't think so - this is one doctor's take on the recent announcement by Patricia Hewitt, the Health Secretary.
DrRant (contains strong language)
"Memo to the dishonest, lying, evil scum running our country
The evil scum at the Department of Health have been a busy bunch. Not resting on their laurels, having effectively ****ed up the NHS beyond repair, and tying up their brains coming up with ideas of how to spin bad news, they are stepping up their campaign to break the public trust in doctors.
Caring, devoted, honest doctors have a 92% trust rating with the public (our patients). The lying, evil, self-serving, cash-for-peerages, power-at-any-price, ****s in Westminster have a 22% trust rating with the public (beaten into last place only by journalists scoring 19%).
How ****ing annoying must that be? I mean, here you are, a power hungry tosseur trying to spin your web of lies and deceit, and here are these whiter-than-white do-gooders running around telling everyone the truth about the NHS. And the public are believing them! It's more than a stone-hearted narcissistic politico can take.
And then it gets quite heated

Can't stand the patronising woman I think she really truly is one of the most vile MPs there are (along with Keith Vas! )but I have to vote for her if I want to keep the party I would like in government!
Democracy works in the strangest ways!
