Britain braced for hurricane force winds
Heavy storms are on their way to batter many parts of the UK, forecasters have warned.
Winds of up to 80mph coupled with downpours of rain could cause chaos for commuters during Thursday's morning rush hour.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6272193.stm
Technically, a storm is classed as a hurricane when winds exceed 74MPH, so i guess this could be classed as one...

Re: Britain braced for hurricane force winds
I bet it won't be that bad. 80 mph isn't that high, really. Maybe a few branches off trees and dislodged roof tiles but not more.

On the plus side though, you might get there early, due to the tailwind

A duvet wrapped around your middle might be advisable.

No it is not a hurricane. It has to be sustained speeds of 75mph or more for that. This is a severe gale. Sustained speeds of about 35 to 40mph. Gusts of winds of between 60-80mph.

Re: Britain braced for hurricane force winds
No doubt the rain and wind will mean I'l get soaked tommorow.
Time to make sure I have buckets under the doors where it leaks in the house and make sure everything is secure.
This windy weather has been going for far too long now......We need a change.

You're 18, you'll be fine.
Plus, as I said, I don't think it will be that bad, except on bridges, or exposed places.
