The goverment said everything was going to be alright.
They said 24 hour drinking was going to cut the amount of binge drinking, then they release this http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv...n_page_id=1770
The government were told about it.

Asides from that, can you really tell me we have 24 hour drinking, I certainly don't know of a single pub / club that opens 24 hours.

Are these people for real, I mean, for one, thats a sexist comment, many drunken women go 'on the pull' as well, 2nd after having as much drink as the ad's implying, do they really think that the people in question are bothered, they're too drunk
Another waste of taxpayers money when the answers could have been gotten in 5 minutes by asking the first bunch of teenagers they could find.

It's written by The Mail Should only wipe your **** with it.
Increase the price of drinks - some bars in Leeds, you don't get much change from a fiver for a rum n coke, and even then there's more coke, ice, and lime than rum in it. Have to pretend to be drunk.

Must admit the cost of drinking out seems to have spiked again recently.
Should we all be punished because of the idiots that get out of their face on a Friday night get run over or fall off buildings? I think not - surely it's evolution in progress.

No it's just the expense and aggravation of those pillocks who will drink more than their system can take and then the police,NHS and any other poor sod who gets in the way who pays the price. How many A&E's could actually cope better if they didn't have to deal with utter total p*ssed off their heads ***** at the weekend?Same for the police.I don't want them in the centre of town on a Saturday night picking up bloodied and vomit covered idiots..I want them out catching REAL criminals. If drink drivers just wrapped themselves round lamp posts it wouldn't be so bad but it's the innocent who usually get hurt by these w******.
Binge drinkers are not just an inconveniece they are a complete bunch of a*******s who take up valuable resources and waste public money because they can't manage their alcohol intake.

Yet again, this has little to do with 24 hour drinking.

Why, our town has seen a fairly dramatic decrease since the changes to the drinking laws. Since the days when everyone was chucked out of the pub at 11:30 there has been considerably less trouble, and the police have been the first to point it out.
My local has a licence until 2am, they will not let anyone in except the select regulars after 11pm ish. We get very few young drinkers in there, its a busy pub on the weekends but the music and general age range tends to put the majority of younger one off.
The young binge drinkers have very little choice of pub after 11pm, the one they were all attending will I believe soon be closing, because th guy who spent a lot of money refurbishing to make a nice place for the younger element is fed up with the trouble they cause, and the complaints from residents and police.
The changes to the licencing laws or 24 hr drinking as the opposition like to call it, is in no way responsible for people who cannot handle their drink because they are still wet behind the ears.

To be honest I think we need a little longer to gather facts and figures before we make such assumptions.I too think it's unlikely but I want more evidence myself.
To be honest I'm not sure if 24 hour opening is actually the norm in that many places..It's certainly not here.

Then perhaps we need new facilities (cost is an issue I know, but I'm coming to that ) to treat them.
If you're found drunk and need "help" then you should be carted off to the "facility" and looked after but then fined the appropriate amount it costs to get you sober and on your way.
Better than direct taxation on the drinks (we shouldn't suffer because of the idiots) and will provide the facilities they need.
Two strikes and your out (banged up for the week on a rehabilitation course).

Most bizarrely, it warns young men that drinking to excess could lead to unfortunate romantic encounters.
A pamphlet designed for young men says: 'That person you're pulling might look gorgeous after you've had a few drinks. But what about in the morning. And can you be sure you'll use a condom?'
|
Thats not bizarre at all! People are warned about that a lot. Yet another irrsponsible article by the mail. More to do with scaremongering and devoid of the actual issue.

And why should it be £5 a pint ??? Thats the daftest thing I've heard in a long time, apart from the problem being caused by the Bargain Booze shops that is They are not the crux of the problem, the problem is too much drink falling into the hands of those that can't handle it, I say falling, more like, being bought for them by others.

As I understand it, Pubs and Clubs don't automatically get the right to 24 hour opening. They can request it, but if the local council refuses, they have to stick to the hours set out in their licence.
That and the fact that in a lot of areas, it's probably not financially viable to stay open for 24 hours, means that not many areas have 24 hour pubs (hell, even in Central London, I don't know of any, although I do know of plenty of pubs that stay open to 2 or 3 am).

Exactly, so the article has nothing to do with " 24 hour " opening, just sensationalism IMHO.
