No offence to anyone who lives there, but I went up to Hull once and it seemed very industrial and not a nice place to live in.
Then again, I'm getting more and more inclined at thinking that nearly all UK cities are awful to live in.

I always thought Hull University was supposed to be pretty good.Anyway wasn't Hull renowned for having a fishing fleet once?Not sure if you can call it an industry anymore though.

Actually it's a very nice city. I really enjoyed living there. It has an atmosphere I've not found anywhere else (no, not because of the fish) - I think it's because it's so cut off from the rest of the country.

Blimey. As a bloody immigrant, I've lived in three cities in the UK and they're all in the top 10. I must be either very unlucky at choosing, or really, really thick. Probably the latter, seeing I'm a foreigner

'officially', because I live on the other side of the Humber river, I'm supposed to express a rivalry with Hull, that may, indeed, be rooted back when the North Sea was a rich fishery.

Those days are long gone, although Hull as a port, still receives fish, it is now mostly either frozen at sea & delivered in large refrigerated cargo ships, or delivered overland from other ports in the UK.

If we didn't have to pay so much to cross the Humber Bridge, I may have wanted to visit Hull, a bit more - the alternative in the other direction is Lincoln, for example

Wasn't Hull also the "no1 Crap Town" in the UK a few years ago (in the "Crap Towns" book)?
