Miscarriage of Justice?

Re: Miscarriage of Justice?
Yeah but most people who are in favour of the death penalty seem to be in favour of it here.

Re: Miscarriage of Justice?
Excellent link!
Goes a bit "shrill" towards the end, but I can understand the blogger's frustration.
fyi, this story is getting plenty of airtime in Yorkshire.

HERE being the operative word as our laws these days tend to be free from religious bias and a lot more objective, not in some religiously fanatical country that resides under a law orginating from a holy book that advocates (amongst many vile, ignorant and bilious things,) slapping your women about... for goodness sakes. That link has nothing to do with anyone agreeing or disagreeing about death sentences, just racism and a blatant advert that religious looney tunes shold not be in charge of the law.

Re: Miscarriage of Justice?
My sympathy doesn't go very far for anyone who decides to visit a s**t hole like Pakistan, or any other extreme and corrupt middle east or muslim country run by reigion.
I dont actually see what this has to do with people in this country expecting the death penalty for extreme cases, this is a twisted view about those of us who want the deth penalty for the like of past and present criminals like Sutcliffe, West, Brady, Hague etc.

Maybe it's also one for the fans of Sharia Law... and to think there are people in this country who would actually have it in the UK...

Re: Miscarriage of Justice?
I would like to see the death penalty return here for the most severe crimes (serial killers/child rapists etc) and where there is 100% proof (a little tricky I know). But, for example, killers in the US arn't deterred by the death penalty because they know they can appeal etc, and can be on death row for years. To be effective, the sentence needs to be 100% guarenteed to be carried out within a few weeks.
BUT... Before that, I would like to see a change in sentence lengths. I mean, a "life" sentence usually means you'll be out in 16 years. "Life" should be a minimum of 45 years without parole.
The length of sentences in this country is a joke.
