Blimey, didn't expect this.

Considering £1 of every £8 spent within the UK already goes to Tesco, they could be on to a winner here. Love 'em or loathe 'em, Tesco are very successful at what they do.

Yes, I was just reading about that here

@ £20 for the "Office" software though, there has to be some other kind of subscription I would have thought, but maybe not, it just does seem very cheap

Re: Tesco to sell software

It's a tie up with Formjet, so presumably it'll be own branded versions of some of these...

Ability Office, Panda AV etc...

Re: Tesco to sell software

Just another pc world idea type.

Sadly with pc newbies any store could sell software to them like selling Ice to an Eskimo.

Sounds like a good idea, let's see whether the software is any good.

Smile Re: Tesco to sell software

It's always been Tesco's style to look round the marketplace for products normally sold by other shops and to aggressively market them at lower prices.

They've already done this with books, CDs, DVDs and with the introduction of pharmacies into larger branches.

The proof of the pudding will be in the eating. Their success will depend upon the quality of the software being offered and the price demanded. The general decline in the high street may well mean lower prices anyway.

The danger is, however, that Tesco's predatory style may drive other firms out of business making the high street a poorer experience for shoppers.

After all, what does one do when you want a specialist item and your corner shop is a Tesco's selling popular lines only?

You shop online for it. It does make for a poorer experience for people who prefer actually going out to shop, as you said.

Will they be doing a Tesco Value version for 99p?
Allows you to write the same documents, they just appear somewhat blander

I think you're right, freezin, that does appear to be the trend, which is going to make life difficult for those who do not have internet access.

It's also going to mean greater unemployment amongst shop workers and lots of empty high street shops.

Well, maybe some retailers could actually start giving a bit of thought about customers services. I am being increasingly encouraged to shop online to keep away from the hell that is the high street. My experience generally is rude, unknowledgeable staff, ******** managers, and grouchy fellow customers.
Not all retail workers are like this mind, but many increasingly are.
