Judge in common sense shock
BBC
Quote:
A judge has sympathised with a mother who landed herself in court after she slapped three teenager who were terrorising her family.
Samantha Nicholson, 31, was given an 18-month community order at Barnsley Magistrates' Court after admitting three counts of assault.
But Judge Michael Rosenberg said right thinking people would be "appalled" by the torrent of abuse she had suffered.
He said she should be helped to move out of the "no go area" of Lund Lane.
'Prisoner in home'
The court heard the mother-of-two snapped on 23 August after being abused by the teenagers, who threw bottles at her windows, sat in her garden all night playing loud music and left her children too afraid to leave the house.
The District Judge said: "You and your family have experienced threats from local children to the extent that you are now afraid to stay in the house when your partner is not there.
"You felt like a prisoner in your own home."
|
Now if only the little sh*tes could be dragged into this Judges' court for their punishment but no doubt nothing has been done about their behaviour

Re: Judge in common sense shock
Oooooooh good on her!!
It's shocking that she got what she did!! It would have been a better story to hear that the rogues had called the police on her and THEY had got punished.
But this??.......
"threw bottles at her windows, sat in her garden all night playing loud music and left her children too afraid to leave the house."
I'd have been tempted to do more than slap them, that is AWFUL.

Come on ? there human Rights will prevent that from happening. While the local do gooders send them on a holiday all expenses paid by the local tax payers. Meanwhile the person who has been attacked and abused is punished. Hard on the victims of crime, Weak on the criminals.
I can tell you now the local do gooders will hold this as a victory for do gooders everywhere

Re: Judge in common sense shock
If you read the judge's carefully worded comments, you will see that he is implying that the local police are useless. What happened to all those much trumpeted ASBOs in this case? Why couldn't the police discreetly observe the toe-rags, slap ASBOs on them, then bring them back to court when they broke the ASBOs, which they would almost certainly do?

No they won't. Pull your head in and go and read the ECHR, if you haven't already.
That overactive imagination of yours still going strong then. Who are these nefarious people? Name and shame, if you'd be so good.
Of course, if there was proper community policing this sort of thing wouldn't happen, but, hey, here in London the head of the Met is blackmailing the government of the city for more cash by threatening to cut services unless we cough up, because anti-terrorism activities have eaten the budget. I suspect he's not going to his namesake Tony and asking him to cough up since its his foreign policy that's brought this about.
Anyway, for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, here's a highly interesting blog apparently written by a magistrate (he/she's certainly got legal knowledge).

With our day's business gone we took work from other courtrooms, varying from search warrants, to a bit of case management, to sending a couple of unpleasant young men who had committed a distraction burglary on an old couple to the Crown Court for sentence, our powers being totally inadequate for such a nasty crime.

Do gooders..why has the poor old charity worker been dragged into this..
Surely you mean that group of people known as busy bodies? Those people whom are interfering, nosy parkers who spend their time telling others what to and complaining that 'they' ought to do something about it..is that whom you meant?
You find them everywhere..even in CF.

Excuse me whilst I fall over laughing! For a start, the police rarely attend incidents of the sort that you mention; and when they do, they do little, if anything, about it.
Now, if they had proper parents and upbringing, this sort of thing wouldn't happen. But children cannot be disciplined these days, either in the home or in the school; consequently they run riot, and get away with it.

She slapped two 14-year-old girls and a 16-year-old boy after another youth had thrown bricks at her house.
They denied throwing it, but Nicholson told them "you think I'm all mouth" and slapped each one of them on the face.

Re: Judge in common sense shock
Who could blame her, its the only way to deal with inconsiderate neighbours.
The kajority of neighbours will just sit in their houses and turn up the TV to drown out the noise of their car being smashed up, or have a sneaky look through the curtain at the neighbours car being broken into.
We have a couple of neighbours in our street like that, when some kids broke in and were smashing up the house next door and attempting to set fire to it one said "Are they OK" People like that dont deserve to live on this planet.
On another occassion when I went out to face some car theives in the act right opposite their house, I could see her curtain twitch as she just checked to see if it wasn't her car.
BTW Both these families are heavily involved with charities, the one woman is a money raking manager for a charity for the homeless, the other one is a social worker, one husband works for the prison service and the other husband I'm not sure, but he always looks high on drugs.
These are the sort of do-gooders that this country can do without, they want to bring thier work home and have done this by pushing for a homeless hostel in our street.
These neighbours get very upset if they see me go out to investigate a noise with my baseball bat, they are very worried that I will catch and hurt some little scum whilst commiting a crime.

I am sorry but every day you can read, See on the news, Hear on the radio how someone has been done for trying to protect what is there own. Meanwhile the scum bags that have committed the crimes get little or no sentence. While liberal do gooders make it even harder to do anything against the people who are making our lives a misery. God help this country if they ever get in to power. For instance the local liberal council will not empty a bin here now if the lid is 1 cm yes 1 cm open. If it is they want us to pay for it to be emptied. They don't give a fig about anything except recycling. They have removed the budget money from the road repairs and put it into recycling sites, Meanwhile awarding themselves a 15% pay increase for the good work they have done . There latest plan is to move to 2 weekly bin emptying so we have to take stuff to the recycling centres so they can get there recycling grants from the Government. Then to top that they are looking into having a separate payment from the council tax for environmental facilities IE recycling centres.
Roads the only money they will spend on the roads here is to narrow them and put in cycle lanes that never get used.
However they have done nothing else for this town except create a later campaign in the local press which will ensure that they don't get back in here again
So if this is what a liberal Goverment would be like then GOD help us all.
By the way keep up the abusive remarks it just shows you are losing it. I for one have never made abusive remarks about you maybe i should start. But then i grew up.

Re: Judge in common sense shock
i sit on the local residents committee and have to listen to constant whining about how the police dont do anything, how the park is a no-go zone, how kids are hanging out on streets thresatening people. turns out they dont actually phone the police, which makes it hard for them to respond. any bother in the park is restricted to less than half a dozen kids who think theyre jack the lad but are soft as brown stuff and simply need talking to. and the kids hanging out on the street are simply doing that. they are not threatening but some people think they look threatening, possibly because theyre hyped up to the gills by the media which likes to suggest the country is on the verge of civil war.
i called the police the other week because there a bunch of lads and lasses squaring up a bit down the road and it looked like it was going to kick off. three cars and two vans arrived within a couple of minutes. this is my standard experience. i'm sure others will cite different experiences, but i can only go by my own. our local bobby is excellent in that he can remember, unlike the stalwarts of the residents association, when he was a kid. he can spot the difference between genuine anti social behaviour and larking or lolling about. he knows people, the good, the bad and me, and can help police effectively because of it.

I had to read this a few times before I decided you're actually being serious.
"Simply need talking to"???
Do you have any suggestions why residents won't approach these kids have give them said "talking to"?
Does the name Peter Woodhams mean anything to you?
