Something tells me this person is not the sharpest chisel in the toolbox..I don't think I'd have tried to get through Customs carrying these..Whatever happened to posting stuff?

The amount of foreigners in this country with illegal passports has a blind eye turned to it by the government, I'm sure they wouldn't want to open up a can of worms by admitting just how common it is.

Thing is, they wouldn't be able to tell you how common it was even if they wanted to!

That's why I put the in!
I dunno - perhaps he still has a British passport? Evidently he's been living here for 7 years so perhaps that has something to do with it?

Algerian but he's classed as a Briton due to him migrating here and gaining a British passport.

BANGKOK - Thai immigration police arrested a British national with 452 fake passports early Wednesday as he was about to board a flight to the Netherlands.
Mahieddine Daikh, 35, a British citizen who had migrated from Algeria, was arrested at Bangkok’s Don Muang International Airport before he was to board a China Airlines flight for the Netherlands, Police Major General Suwat Thamrongsrisakul said.

I wonder if I'm the only person that thinks that people who "assume" British nationallity should have their passports revoked and be made to return to their native homeland if they are found to be breaking the law in such a major way?

Okay so if I moved from here to somewhere like Iraq and lived there for seven years then that would suddenly make me Iraqi?
Of course not. Seeing as I was born in England then the only thing I can ever be is English

no, 7 years residence is enough to apply for naturalisation, or he may have been born to British parents - I was born in Malta, it doesn't make me Maltese.
Whatever his nationality, this guy was unbelievably stupid.

I think it's only 3 years, my GF (possibly ex) is filipino, her 3 year visa is up for renewal at the end of the year. She has been given forms to apply for a british passport.
She has worked in many countries, but says this country is one of the easiest in the world to gain a passport in her opinion.

If you are born in the UK, it does not make you a british citizen, you have to apply for it and may or may not get it.
If however your parents are british citizens and you were born here, then you automatically get it.
We covered all this in the immigration thread.
If your grandparents were british, then you can apply for an ancestry visa which is what my gf is over here on.
It means you can work and pay tax, but have no access to public funds, ie no job seekers allowance, no housing benifits, etc.
After that you can apply for indefinite leave to remainwhich means you are a foreign national who is allowed to live in this country for an unlimited period.
And then you can apply for british citizenship.
