Gypsies Giro Goldmine

A family ran a counterfeit Giro scheme from a traveller site in order to claim almost £500,000, a court has heard.
Members of the Maughan family and several other relatives ran the scam from December 2003 until November 2004 from a site at Hewish, near Weston.
Seven people previously pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to defraud and will be sentenced on Friday.
Bristol Crown Court heard on Thursday that the family fraudulently claimed £443,000 before being caught.
The counterfeit ring, led by Patrick Maughan, 41, mass produced counterfeit Giro cheques and birth certificates.
