London Terrorist Attack: Discussion and Speculation
I've opened this up, as I don't want speculation in the other thread.
If you wish to speculate, etc then please do it here, just remember emotions will be running high, so keep it as calm as you can.

Re: London - Speculation
TBH I'd rather not see any thread for "speculation" yet.
Not until we have more information, and those of us still missing loved ones know that they are ok.
To my mind, any thread about speculation is going to get out of hand very quickly, lets have a little respect here shall we? Now isn't really the time for speculation - things are bad enough as they are, let's concentrate on fact and helping each other through this.
Please.

Re: London - Speculation
I agree with you Raist, but there are some that will speculate none the less. I just don't want it in the News thread.

Ok, I can understand that. I just think that people should have a little bit mor thought for others, and respect for this site, than to be bandying around wild rumours at this time.
We have no fact, we don't know what happened, any speculation is pointless (and, in some cases, a little tasteless).
However, I understand that people (being people) will want to speculate, and I respect that.

Re: London - Speculation
Sorry people, but speculation is already going on in every house, office and pub in the country, like it or not. Respect and restraint has to go hand in hand with the fact that people want to talk about what has happened and what it means. Talking about it is a pressure relief valve for some, a means of coping.
We on the CF team will endeavour to keep posts in the appropriate thread; can I respectfully ask that if you fear one or more of the threads is too upsetting for you, that you refrain from reading it for the time being.

Re: London Terrorist Attack: Discussion and Speculation
I agree, hyperboly on the part of newsmen/commentators is not helpful. This is on a far smaller scale, both in the level of planning required and in the amount of death/destruction that has been caused. The only sense in which this is 'our 9/11' is that it seems to be the spectacular attack Al Quaeda has been wanting to carry out on London, just as 9/11 was their spectacular attack on NY.

Re: London Terrorist Attack: Discussion and Speculation
what you have to think about is the people living in iraq where this sort of thing happens every day...... we are lucky.

Re: London Terrorist Attack: Discussion and Speculation
I'll speculate something.
Compulsary ID cards would not have prevented this.

Yep. But I wouldn't put money on this not being used as justification for them within the next couple of weeks.

It's not like the IRA, though.
At least the IRA etc would usually give prior warning.
And the IRA etc didn't use suicide bombers (speculation on the news from police sources that the bus bomb was a suicide bomb)....
This is worse than the IRA...

Re: London Terrorist Attack: Discussion and Speculation
From what they're saying on Five Live, they sound pretty certain now the bus bomb was carried out by a suicide bomber.
If true, then that is definitely something new for the UK, & definitely worse & more scary than what we've ever seen before here.

Re: London Terrorist Attack: Discussion and Speculation
We'll learn from it, probably have things put in place so that if anything happens on the underground, all busses stop and evacuate until given the all clear
