Perhaps I am being overly cynical but this has always seemed like someone is trying to justify their job or create another revenue stream.

Yes but not all vitamins have these colourings in...you only have to ask for those that have no additives. They are available in good reputable health food shops.I buy stuff like valerian tea to help me cope with my migraines otherwise I'm going to be going to the doctor getting stronger and stronger painkillers that cost more and more because one gets habituated to the drugs and they fail to work after a while.I try to do with just basic paracetmol and herb teas to survive..If this happens I won't be able to use a product that has been used since the middle ages to help induce natural sleep.
I personally would like to be given the benifit of the doubt and be allowed to exercise my own judgement in this matter. All the vitamins and supplements available do have the ingredients clearly labelled on them especiallly if you go to a reputable health food shop and buy products produced by reputable names.Holland and Barrett have NO intentions of killing their customers after all...they want them to come back and continue to buy their products.
Also consider this,in whose REAL interest is this directive.Yours?Mine? I doubt it and I suspect that the larger pharmaceuticals will be the winners if this directive goes ahead. They will be the only ones who can afford to prove and test products that DON'T need testing because they have been in use by our forefathers for hundreds of years. Also simple ordinary vitamins tablets will shoot through the roof in price if this happens.
Herbalists are carrying on a tradition that has lasted since the middle ages-why should they have their livihoods affected because of brussels bureaucracy?

Nope, it's a ploy by the drug companies to increase their revenue

You a nit picker? Can't say as I've noticed
However if you reread the article's first sentence.

Up to 5,000 vitamin and food supplements

It also didn't mention that they were all different vitamins

Ah, but I was careful to first check the article's headline which says, "Blair opposes EU's directive to outlaw up to 5,000 vitamins", which only mentioned vitamins. I shall continue being a lone voice of chemical sanity when it comes to slipshod newspaper terminology.

Theodoric is right of course, and the thread title is wrong as well...

Re: EU's directive to outlaw up to 5,000 vitamins
These are all supplements, so can all be acheived from eating the right foods anyway!
No biggie!
