Mississippi Burning... justice at last
Edgar Ray Killen, a former Ku Klux Klan leader, was convicted of manslaughter on Tuesday for orchestrating the murders of three civil rights workers in Mississippi in 1964.
He was sentenced today to 60 years imprisonment
He's appealing though, unfortunately. I hope he fails & rots in prison.

Don't think he'll live long enough to see the appeal through. Saw him on the news the other night, he's looking seriously frail.

Re: Mississippi Burning... justice at last
The judge made a very good statement prior to delivering sentence, they showed it on the news live.
20 years per life taken, fair enough I say.

Re: Mississippi Burning... justice at last
I am glad the case was brought successfully before he died. It would have been a shame if he died a free man.

What, like take 40 years to get it done?

I know what you meant.

Re: Mississippi Burning... justice at last
It would have been justice 40 years ago, but not now. It took a change in morality - or more accurately, a perceived change forced by an outside world - for him to be convicted. That's not justice. Forty years ago he did no wrong - you can't apply today's morals to old actions and suddenly declare them wrong. They have to be wrong at the time. There's no meaning to the conviction. That chapter in history closed long ago.

Re: Mississippi Burning... justice at last
I see your point that for it to have been true justice the ******* should have been convicted 40 years ago.
But at least he *has* finally been convicted, & (hopefully) will now not die a free man, unpunished.

Re: Mississippi Burning... justice at last
Hmm, 60 years for manslaughter .... a little harsh don't you think.
