Re: School bans skirts

Wrong...

How are young guys supposed to get an idea as to what they are supposed to be chasing?

Anything in trousers?

This country.

Re: School bans skirts

It seems the school governors and the headmistress genuinely believe they've had a eureka moment. I wonder why they've not paused to wonder why no other school has felt it necessary to 'protect girls' modesty' in this way? Girls are perfectly well able to protect their own modesty with the range of clothes available to them, if that's what they want (and in some cases that I see, I doubt very much that's what they want).

What a hare-brained scheme.

Re: School bans skirts

Protecting a girl's modesty? Where have I heard that before...

The school could issue burqas and protect the girls' modesty further.

Also, note the implication that all men are inheritantly perverted, and are desperate to catch a sight of a girl's knickers. And apparently modest should only be persued during winter, as the clothing rules would be relaxed in summer?

He's an idea: how about giving the poor sods at school getting bossed an option, for a change? Let girls wear trousers or skirts depending on what they feel more comfortable in.

It wasn't that long ago people was struggling to get permissioin for girls top wear pants in the very cold weather. Sanity has gone unless the governers are mainly ethnic minority people who feel that girls should cover up more.

that reminds me of a 'cover up' situation in iran...on the news they intervewed a guy who was just a member of the public... from the head and to the ankle this woman was covered in black and the suit was in two pieces, the guy said he wanted to "beat her with a stick" because the ankles were not covered" and he did not like the two piece suit

Surely you mean trousers, not pants? If not, I think there is something to be said for a ban on skirts

Not to mention the recent report of an aid worker (and her baby) being stoned by women because she was breast feeding in public!

sometimes i wonder if states like that want reform or not, i guess i know the answer already.

still dont see a ban on skirts to be valid, how long have girls been allowed to wear skirts ?

Apropos of this and another recent thread, here's one of the other links on that page: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/kent/3796163.stm where a boy decided to wear a skirt to school to point out that the uniform rules were sexist.

What's most interesting is this bit: "It also made him sit an exam in isolation to prevent him from distracting other students."

It seems they didn't ban him from the exam, nor tell him to wear someone else's trousers from the Lost Property box...!

That's just homo (don't mean to offend gay people) but if girls have a choice then there's no reason why lads can't wear shorts, or if they want to, skirts.

And referring back to the exam malarky- well it is the school's discretion on exam dress codes and their enforcement, so that school decided to make them work in isolation, another school wouldn't give a flyer, and the other school stopped them sitting it! Such is life.

Re: School bans skirts

It's gotta be persoanl choice, what are we taching kids if we dictate what exactly they have to where, shorts / skirts / trousers let them chose.. School uniforms are great for creating uniformity, adn familiaisation amongost other things.. but world gone mad, oh and not to mention the parents who now have to go and by more school uniform..
