Where your Tsunami donations went...

We'll I'm sure we all remember the shocking news from last Christmas/boxing day Millions of people suffering due to the asian Tsunami and I'm sure that many donated money to help out but look whats happened to it.

Absolutely disgusting Oxfam are trying to help the people of that country and what do they do...

Re: Where your Tsunami donations went...

"Nearly 31,000 people died in Sri Lanka when the tsunami struck on 26 December.

Half a million were made homeless."

Talk about biting the hand that feeds you! So am I mistaken here or did loads of their people die and get made homeless so we donated loads of cash and now they are crapping on Oxfam who are only there to help. We should ask for our donations back (if we could) and tell them we cant help next time they need our help as they are ungrateful scum?

I've tried to find the email address of their london embassy so I can express my disgust in a personal email to their scum bag politians. the cheeky gits - how do they have the nerve to show such lack of appreciation. they should be thanking the oxfam people and rolling out the red carpet.

Terrible. I hope the UK government or the EU sanction them in some way.

Re: Where your Tsunami donations went...

Locally we have a Village to Village appeal for Tsunami victims which we are using to "directly" help villages. One project they are hoping to set up is to get running water to to villages who have lost the main breadwinners. In many of these places the tourist areas have running water but the villages who supply the workforce to run the tourist industry have nothing. Until we are sure the money will benefit the people in along term way we will not sanction expenditure.

perhaps one of the admins or mods could ring this number and ask if they'd like to comment as Cable Forum are doing an article on them! I bet that line is red hot today with stoppy people ringing it.

Re: Where your Tsunami donations went...

While a little outragous that they have done this you have to remember that the import duty will end up with the SriLanken Govt who then have more money to spend on rebuilding the country, the problem being that this may then be directed in a way the Charity may not desire, though I don't think the Sri Lanken govt is particularly corrupt.

It would be very different if the supplier of the vehicles was charging a premium due to the destination, the money will end up in the country that needs it.

Money raised through customs duty into government treasury, then no doubt followed by a gradual shifting, drip by drip of monies to be used for personal gain. Try looking at what Transparancy International have to say.
