Cheap Perfume Warning
Mrs Jellybaby just recieved this email, and I thought i'd pass it on.
Ladies, a serious email. Read and be careful
>
> We have the following alerts to issue.

> About 3 weeks ago, I was at the Shell station in London getting diesel.
>
> It was about 11 :30 pm.
>
> I was approached by 2 men and 2 women in a car.
>
> The man that was driving asked me What kind of perfume do you wear?' I was a bit confused and I asked him Why?'
>
> He said We are selling some name brand perfumes, at cheap prices.'
>
> I said I had no money.
>
> He then reached out of the car and handed me paper that was laminated and
>
> it had many perfumes on it.
>
> I looked quickly at it and gave it back.
>
> I said, 'I have no money'.
>
> He said 'It is OK, we take cheque, cash or credit cards'.
>
> Then the people in the car began to laugh.
>
> I got in my car and said no thanks.
>
>
>
> Today I received this e-mail and it sent chills up my spine.
>
> Be careful. I was approached yesterday afternoon around 3:30 pm in Tesco car park in Sheffield when two males asked what kind of perfume I was wearing.
>
> Then they asked if I'd like to sample some fabulous scent they were willing

>
> THIS IS NOT PERFUME...IT IS ETHER!

> When you sniff it, you'll pass out.

> You lock all your doors, start the engine and shift into reverse.

It does, but i'll tell you what sounded odd to me.
Firstly, petrol stations are probably one of the safest areas of the UK given the amount of cameras there. Bearing in mind they'd have to hang around, knock you out, rob you and drive away, all with loads of cameras pointed at them, they'd have to be brave.
Secondly, the term "ethers" is a bit general. Some are nasty, but others aren't. Even the nastier ones, I very much doubt would knock you clean out with one sniff. Chloroform would struggle to do that (I think its possible given high enough concentrations, but to go straight our without being able to cause a fuss or scene, would be hit-and-miss), but that isn't an ether.
It is generally a good idea, especially if this stuff comes through emails, to double check.
I remember the endless messages I used to get through ICQ saying "If you don't send this message to everyone on your list Mirabilis (or whoever owns them now) will delete your account!". Completely hoaxed, and doesn't benefit anyone at all. God knows why they do it, but someone must like doing it.

However....... as has been learnt from the luring techniques of Ted Bundy...... being drawn to a car is risky business
So a useful reminder regardless of it being a hoax

From the best "truth or legend" site on the net - you can waste a lot of time reading the true and false ones there - like the old classic of the carpet fitter who mislays his cigarettes ... you know the rest!

Ok i think we need to look at some points on this thread, Ether needs to be forced into your breathing, not just waved under your nose, your natural reaction to an intoxicating smell would make you stop "sniffing" it.
