How? Barring direct military action like the 1968 Prague uprising and the 1956 Hungarian one, is this just due to lower health standards and life expectency?

So while remembering the defeat of fascism in 1945, the battle is ongoing today. The biggest tribute you can give those who fought in WW2 is to fight the same battle today.
