Power Cut Compo
Here in sunny Hatfield, half the town had no power yesterday from 11am till 11.45pm. Has anyone had any experience in claiming compensation from the power companies for this kind of outage?

Re: Power Cut Compo
if your a business you can pay extra per bill for a guaranteed outage fix time, or you used to be able to. Then of course failure to comply with that guarantee will open the doors for compo. Same with bt phone im sure.

Yes had a powercut a month ago that lasted a week.
We blow up the sub station. EDF Energy bought a generator that was not big enough to power the whole street. They turned on between 6-10pm and 7-9am when we went to claim comp because all the frezzer food de frosted
They kindly told us as they managed to restore the supply every twelve hours and we where not off for more than 24 hours in succession.
Therfore we where entitled to £0 had to claim of home insurance Now have claim on file policy goes up next year.
I have a chinese waterdragon that needs to be kept at temps above 75F all day had to buy a small genni myself to get through the cost as expected they would not refund either

to be fair, your freezer must be a bit crap. If you leave the door closed while the electric is off, your food should be able to stay frozen for a day

Was the value of the food in your freezer worth the increase in your policy?

I think you should have already been prepared for any unforeseen circumstances concerning the upkeep of your exotic pets.

Correct there, as its something the company could not possibly plan for and it is something you should have a backup device for.
At my old house we had a small petrol generator common to those burger van things, was handy when power went. Well worth the money

Freezers fine only a couple of years old. Problem was the duration the supply was left on which was between 7-9am then 6-10pm and the voltage My normal 60 watt spotlights where like a 12w candle light when the electric was on. Took over an hour to cook chicken strips that only take 20mins normally. From 10pm to 7am and then 9am to 6pm for 7 days there was no electricity at all

I was prepared and had some self heating blankets although these only lasted 4 hours as long as I expect a power cut to last. I now have a small 2.2kw generator
IMO we dont live in a third world country therefore i feel power cuts in this day in age lasting 7 days is inexcusable and a refletion of how
poorly equipped our fantastic privatised electical suppliers are for incidents of this nature

Re: Power Cut Compo
I think its fair to mention that power cuts ar ethings of the past after the massive rework of the infrastructure after the great storm.. but they do and can happen, and unfortuanty can last a long time, whilst I feel it fair your annoyed, its one of those things we have to live with, if we want a high avaibaility servide we would have to pay a lot more.. 12 hours and 7 days etcd are extremly rare....

Re: Power Cut Compo
Had a phone message from edf apologising for our outage this morning and claiming that it is now fixed.
Came home from work to find a fairground sized generatror wired into the substation at the end of the road. Bloke running it says its there for 'the foreseeable future'!!!!!!!
