Jef Raskin dies aged 61
Jef Raskin who headed the team that made the first macintosh has died of cancer.
I am surprised this hasnt been given more news time. Some of the innovations that came with the mac was the GUI, icons and folders, and the mouse!

Who!...no disrespect to the dead...but who!!!?
I bet people won't say that about Bill Gates!...who excelled the "GUI, icons and folders, and the mouse!"

Re: Jef Raskin dies aged 61
Bill gates didnt invent any of those however (and certainly didnt have anything to do with the mouse). Don't forget bill gates took most of the ideas for windows right from the mac.
Raskin has a lot to do with computers today

Re: Jef Raskin dies aged 61
Because he was a key figure in the history of IT, if it wasnt for him who knows what road computing would have took. (and microsoft took the ideas of him and the mac, so microsoft fanboys owe a lot to him too)

No offense but I've absolutely no interest in what he did or didn't design, I've sympathy for his family but other than that, I can think of better things to search for.

Didn't Xerox innovate the GUI etc. first at Palo Alto? Apple just took the ideas and applied them to the mac, so Apple fanboys owe a lot to them too.

Re: Jef Raskin dies aged 61
Apple were the ones who took the idea forward when applying to to personal computers. There was also the lisa that was made before the mac by apple

Re: Jef Raskin dies aged 61
For those who are interested ...
None of these things were invented by the people at Apple, just as MS largely cloned the MAC interface, so Apple cloned the things which Steve Jobs got a look at on a visit to PARC ( run by XEROX). They just developed them into a commercial product.
Trouble was no one at Xerox thought it would catch on !!!
otherwise Xerox might have become the IBM of the PC world, and we might all have been charged on cost per copy for each page we printed out.
