Post Caught in the act

BBC News
Quote:
Serial burglar caught on webcam
A house burglar was caught after a webcam on the owner's computer recorded images of him carrying out the raid.
Stills of serial raider Benjamin Park, 19, of Cambridge, were sent to an email address so even when he stole the computer, the images could be found.
Police said it was a "brilliant idea"
Say hello to an Idiot

Plus he pleaded guilty so he'll probably only serve 6 months at most.

Mind you I suppose we should be thankful that he was actually sent down and not given a light tap on the wrist and sent for councilling

Re: Caught in the act

He denied it at first, then the police showed him the footage. He had a change of heart then and admitted it.

The police were being quite smug about it, apparently his face was a picture when he saw the vid.

Least they got him for it.

Re: Caught in the act

It states he got 11 months, but it was 6 months for one and 5 months for another job. This is normally a concurrent sentence so he will be out in four months providing he’s a good boy inside.

One thing I find strange is that he got a higher sentence of 6 months for the attempted burglary in Ely and only 5 months for Gilmerton Court where he got smudged by the homeowner’s computer.

Re: Caught in the act

So, is there a guide anywhere for someone who may want to set up a similar setup ? What type of camera will be needed ?

Most of the cameras have motion detection as standard and the software to send to an email address or web site of your choice.

I’m thinking about the Linksys wireless camera that was £300.00 but is now down to £130.00 or less.

Duncan Grisby sent a link to his website http://www.grisby.org/burglar.html to the cam.misc newsgroup so we have been following this story for a while now!

Re: Caught in the act

His sentence is a joke though. He recieved custodial sentences twice before for burgulary. They should have buried him this time.

I bet you at some point now someone or organisation is going to come out and declare this is an abuse of the burgular's human rights especially with right to privacy...

Perhaps he'll try and sue the victim for recording him without his permission, you know, invading his privacy....
