George Michael To Quit Pop Music

Thank god for that

Doesn't it make you sick though how these filthy rich people complain about being a celebrity all the time. Take his millions away and give him a job in Asda - see if he complains then.

Re: George Michael To Quit Pop Music

I think it's quite sad he's leaving. He is talented (although his latter stuff has become quite boring).

There are loads of other people I would personally prefer to leave the music industry (Bryan Adams, Ronan Keating, Westlife, McFly, Athlete etc).

I have to admit, I can see his point about celebrity. I have never really understood it's appeal. As far as I am concerned, with Actors, Musicians etc, we pay them to act, record music, sing or whatever. We don't have the right to see them in their private life (nor should we). Yet, somehow, we (or at least the media) assume we somehow have the right to see what is happening in their private life. This has happened a lot to George Micheal, and I think it's possibly this he is complaining about.

I know that the bulk of forum members are not paid nearly as much as pop stars, but how would we feel if our customers (or those of the company we work for) suddenly started to demand to know what went on in our private lives? As far as I am concerned, with Singers, Actors or other famous people, it's the same thing.

Still, there are some people who want to be famous for the sake of being famous (e.g. Jordan, Peter Andre, any Reality TV contestant). I don't particularly want to know about the lives of these people either.

You guys know the rules - play nice now please

He's certainly talented but not (IMO) as much as he seems to think. I don't think he'll be missed all that much, it's not as if he regularly churns out memorable chart music.

Well I think the fuss is that he is someone who has a part in millions of peoples' lives. The problem is I think people get tired of pretentious stunts - in 1990 he decided to never appear in music videos again. He kept that up until 1996 (if you ignore the video for "Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me" circa 1991) and carried on as normal after that.

Re: George Michael To Quit Pop Music

Mind you, it's not the first time a pop (or rock) star has "quit the business".

The thing is though, that these people can't have it both ways - they want to be the media's best friend when it suits them, and then they want nothing to do with them when it's no longer what they want - sadly - if you live in the public eye, rightly or wrongly the public owns you.

Re: George Michael To Quit Pop Music

Will anyone actually notice though? Let's face it, Shoot the Dog didn't exactly set the world on fire, did it?

This just sounds like him trying to get himself back in the press anyway - his celebrity has funded the lifestyle that he has, hasn't it?

The only George Michael would be particularly relevant now would be if he actually shot a dog - that'd guarantee him the column inches that he still appears to crave.

Ach, just ignore him and he will come back then.
