45days and rescued from a desert island afer the tsunami
source : http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...480259,00.html
Amazing story but what really irritated me they could not resit in posting TEENAGE on the description when they state shes a mother...
Quote:
Tsunami girl saved after 45 days
Diet of coconuts and fruit kept alive a teenage mother whose husband and child were lost in the disaster
A TEENAGE mother stranded on a deserted island by the Asian tsunami survived for 45 days on a diet of coconuts and fruit before being rescued, police said yesterday.

Is the description of teenage correct or not ? if it is, what's the problem ?

That dispite her ordeal they have to make it in capital letters as if to say teenage mother, sigh do they ever grow up.
I mean aint she been through enough for the western press to highlight shes a teenage mother.
Sorry just a gripe of mine perhaps its nothing.

There is no denying she is a teenager but the capitalisation of just that word is bizzare,

Agreed I think it personally was a dig at her, and it sickened me, the story is great news a child finds its mother who has somehow survived, and yet they find it nice to show it in capitals damning the whole story with it.
Sad sick and downright wrong, while they have a right and likely have a point to make doing that capitalising teenager is it something that is just not needed.

If you look around the site, you'll find it is quite normal (House Style) to capitalise the first couple of words of articles. I think you are reading too much into it.

I think you are totally losing the plot - what dig ?? the girl was 18 (which is teenage) and married, how is this story a dig at anyone, how is it sick ? And have you even read it ? - the poor girls husband and child are missing - presumed dead, I don't know where you get " a child finds it's mother" from ?

agreed, there is nothing in it, and a TEENAGE mother is acceptable these days.
I think you should read things slowly and try to understand it more.

Teenage mothers have always been around and have always been acceptable, now if it had been a schoolgirl mother it would have been a different thing.

Re: 45days and rescued from a desert island afer the tsunami
There is nothing wrong with the use of the word Teenage here. It is in my opinion not saying anything bad, but instead praising the person as a teenager is still a young person in the world and it can be hard at times for young people. She managed to get by for all that time and it is great she is alive.

even then, you can have a school girl who is 18, still fine and acceptable, this is just a stigma of words, schoolgirl = should not have a baby......... 18yr old girl = ok to have a baby.
some young people do want children, some unfortunately get pregnant on their first time, either through bad education, mistrust or peer pressure, some people fall pregnant after taking precautions (spelling).
I think everyone should lighten up on things like this, and let the people who it affects deal with, it is not for us to judge.
