TV Rental Return

Hi, a minor problem really, but annoying to us all the same, hopefully someone will have an idea of what I can do to move things on! My elderly father has rented a tv from Boxclever for some years now, and no longer requires it. He canceled the direct debit, and informed them that he no longer wanted the tv. They then responded by trying to take the next months rental, even though theyd been informed, and he was in advance of payment. And now say they cannot collect the tv ( A 32" monster!) until Christmas Eve, quote "At the earliest" And may be longer.
While I'm doing my best to persuade him that leaving it on the doorstep is not the way to go, I feel its a little coincidental that they want to wait a month, when theyd tried to take the months rental as well. Can he charge them storage? Or threaten to? Storage of the tv is a problem.
Any help would be appreciated as regards his rights.

However his contract probably has stuff in it about safekeeping, responsible ownership, caring for the product, so leaving it outside on the doorstep may cause him to breach the termination clauses in the contract.

Re: TV Rental Return

Thanks for the replies, Im quite happy to write a letter threatening to charge them storage, if it was legal to do so. (Or the leave on doorstep ploy!) I find it sad that we need to do things like this just to gee people up into doing there jobs. (Sure that relates to the amount of unclaimed NTL boxes!)
While I dont expect them to drop everything just to pick the tv up, surely if theyre out delivering goods on a daily basis, they can pick them up too?
