Re: Reasonable Force !

I think that is in excess of 'reasonable force'.

When it is somethhing like this it is clear and calculating. Theres nno self-defence involved.

Makes the Saudi response to theft look quite attractive!

Ouch.........

Perhaps a little OTT in the punishment stakes, but woe-betide the first thief I catch in my house. I reckon it would be hard to be a thief with two broken arms, and two broken legs.

They could just cliam disability then! and sue you and so on. They will get lots of free money they wont NEED to be a thief! Nah, Its best to let justice deal with them and remind yourself that their lifes cant be that good if they resort to stealing.

Re: Reasonable Force !

No offence to you Damien, but my life aint a bed of roses, but I'm not out breaking and entering. As to you're asseration that we should leave justice to the courts, hahahahahaha.

Serial burglers rob hundreds of homes, stealing tens of thousands of pounds of other peoples possessions. And when the police finally do, maybe catch them, the courts give them a slap on the wrist. B*ll*cks to the justice system if I find an intruder in my home. If I find a thief stealing my belongings, of which I dont have a great deal, but I worked hard to afford them, then god have mercy on them. Cause I wont.

Smile Re: Reasonable Force !

Burglars only rob houses that do not present too great a challenge and where the householder is not security minded and is careless.

Simplest answer is to get a dog. With one of those you'll soon know if anyone is in your garden never mind your house. And as soon as the dog starts to bark the burglar will be off.

And just in case your burglar isn't typical make sure it's a fairly big dog, so that if and when the burglar does break in your canine friend can give him/her the warm welcome which they deserve.

Re: Reasonable Force !

I doubt EOB would go to prison. That is GBH and for someone to go to jail on GBH you normally need to severely smack someone, if you don't use a weapon. Especially with the circumstances which most people can sympathise with, although can't condone. Sentences for that would normally be 1-2 years suspended with provocation, if he EOB had no previous. The fact he is ex-army wouldn't help, like it didn't on the movie ConAir. People of responsibility, or ex-responsibility are judged more harshly. If he specifically targetted those limbs for breakage he'd go to prison though. If it was a general fist fight he probably wouldn't.

There is a big difference between self-defence and revenge. The trouble is, revenge, is an intrinsic part part of human nature. Although people can't condone it, and and politicans set laws to punish it, that doesn't mean we can all just suddenly stop because it is deemed bad. Where that normally in times of hard stress like confronting a burgular, people normally enter a temporary psychosis, where they can't evaluate criminal law, and human instinct takes over, in the form of a revenge generated rage. That is different from the pre-meditated the-justice-system-won't-sort-you-out-so-I-will.

I think if burgulars were actually punished properly, then that will help stop the latter, but as far as the former goes, I think only evolution will stomp it out. I think people need to be more understanding about it. You can only know how it feels to be burgled if you have been. I can't bear to imagine being burgled as much as some people get done.

If a burglar would end up with four broken limbs, I think you'd have a very hard time proving these were not targeted. One broken limb in a struggle, yes. Two maybe, but I would think that when the burglar has two broken limbs he would not be much of a threat anymore. Just imagine fighting someone with a broken leg and arm. Hardly an even battle I would think, especially for an ex-army bloke. I think he'd go to jail.

Yeah, but I wasn't sure if he was being literally or not.

About five years ago a group of locals got together and broke both of their legs, the police were informed but there was insufficient evidence to arrest anyone for the crime. I think the police went through the motions and turned a blind eye, as they were fed up with arresting these criminals. I think the police met with the residents and advised them that they didn't want it to become a regular occurance.

I have a friend who lives in the village, and he says all the trouble stopped after they were dealt with. The two brothers were scared to commit any crime again and all the other local trouble makers thought they would get the same if they didn't behave.

Although many of you dont agree with that method, it did work in this case.

Re: Reasonable Force !

If someone breaks into my house and I catch them they will take a good beating.

One of my best mates is in the Police, he says do what you like to them within reason!! I can come round to his after and he will smack me one in the face giving me a black eye and bruising.

Then its a criminal Scumbags word against mine.........of course the law abiding houseowner wins everytime unless there is sufficinent eveidence to suggest otherwise.

At the end of the day punishment in this country is too soft. The majority of people dont 'reform'.

Corporal Punishment or Capital Punishment is still the way forward........the majority of people with brains will decide not to steal if their hand will be chopped off, and people wont needlessly kill if they will get hanged! Its common sense if people are still stupid enough to commit crimes then thats their problem, but it will put the majority off! The only minor problems of course is if people are wrongly convicted.

This method of punishment would also save vast amounts of money we currently waste on providing hotel facilities for criminals...........in some case the prison facilities are better than thier own homes so they like it and want to go back!

We could spend this on Schools and Hospitals for the law abiding citizens
