Re: It gets worse
A hard punch to the neck could be enough to kill someone.

The Beeb has updated the story with a bit more info but nothing concrete yet, looks like some sort of medical eppisode bought on by the confrontation.

Teenager dies after school fight
A 15-year-old boy died after a school fight in Greater Manchester on Tuesday, police said.
Greater Manchester Police said the boy was involved in an "altercation" at 12.30pm at Broadoak High School in Partington, Trafford.
He was taken to Trafford General Hospital but died 35 minutes later. It is understood no weapons were used.
Two 14-year-old boys have been arrested in connection with the incident and police are still at the scene.
No-one from Trafford Local Education Authority was immediately available for comment.
A Greater Manchester Police spokeswoman said an argument had taken place in an annexe building at the rear of the school.
She said: "There was a small group of children present at the time of the incident - around five to eight children."
Staff at the school tried to revive the boy but were unable to save him.
The headmaster called pupils to a special assembly where he told them the news and offered them skilled support to cope with the tragedy before they were allowed home.
Pupils and teachers who detectives wanted to question about the incident have remained at the school.
Steve Sinnott, general secretary of the National Union of Teachers, said incidents such as this were rare in schools.
Young people need to understand that the best way to deal with a problem is not through confrontation
Steve Sinnott, NUT
He said: "The biggest problem in schools is low level disruption and cheek, not physical violence.
"This kind of tragedy is so rare and, despite public impressions, violence is an unusual event.
"It is much more aggressive body language and aggressive language which needs to be controlled, but the difficulty with aggressive non-violent behaviour is it can become violent."
Mr Sinnott said young people needed to understand that confrontation was not the best way to deal with a problem.
"Sadly our schools are not immune to what is happening on our streets generally.
"They cannot close out at the school gates the ills besetting society."

Re: It gets worse
Was told today that our next-door-neighbours grandson is now sporting thirty stitches in his face. Seems he and a number of friends where attacked by a largergroup of older teenagers. Most of his mates did a runner, but he and a girl didnt escape in time. Because he had broken an arm 2 weeks before the attack he was unable to escape, and as a result got a broken bottle in the face. Other than the fact the girl who was there started screaming bloody murder, he'd have gotten the same again on the other side of his face.
The world seems to be hip deep in pond-scum I wouldnt wipe of my boots.

Well I could push someone back gently and they could fall down some stairs or off an edge - it would still be manslaughter. He could have already been infirm as well. Also it is fairly easy if you have something hard like a wall or floor around. Hoe many times can his head stand being banged against it.

It doesn't take a lot catch someone with a punch whilst they are off balance and it could be the end, it happened many years ago a few hundred yards down the street from where I live. It was a bit of a scuffle, one guy strck another he lost his balance whilst trying to get out of the way, tripped over and struck his head on the kerb.
Another big guy who used to drink in my local, was provoked and hit one night by a group of younger guys until he hit one of them. The guy never regained consciousness again, it's so easy to lash out even in self defence and it all ends in a death or serious injury.
My local college had a death many years ago after a student on a painting and decorating course fell off the second step of the step ladder and struck his head on a window sill, apparently the guy died almost instantly.
It always makes me wonder when I go out on the weekend and see people having a drink and looking for trouble, I can look after myself and never start a fight, but one night in self defence I could end up in prison.
It could happen to any of us
