Wild Parrots
I have just read this and it is claimed that the wild Parrot population of Britian is rising by 30% a year. To be honest I didn't even know that we had any wild parrots in this country
How many of you guys and gals have seen a wild parrot in this country?
I just can't believe we have them!!

Re: Wild Parrots
I saw one at work once - we were working outside and everyone thought I had been on the booze - even though it was only 10 in the morning!
I've seen a couple since so I thought they must be living around here - bit more decorative than sparrows!

Re: Wild Parrots
Yep, saw them in and flying between the trees / shrubs surrounding a factory I used visit in Ashford a year and a bit ago. Factory was surrounded by a belt of woody parkland. Quite a shock when you first see them. I shall wait for the first report of a nice big McCaw! Now that WILL be an event.
Had a friend up here in the north who used to have some 30-40 budgies around his garden. He introduced them and added to the numbers occasionally - but the group seemed to be largely self sustaining. Many came into a shelter in his garden at night and the shelter gave them food, water a breeding place and safety when they needed it - but otherwise they were free to come and go as they pleased. Have not seen the guy for some 10 years - must look him up and see if the "colony" is still active.

Re: Wild Parrots
believe it or not we used to have a heron that came to try steal fish from our pond very regularly. this was only a small 1.5x1.5m pond, so imagine our surprise when we go out one day and there is this giant bird in teh garden
bear in mind i live in the middle of a landlocked town about 100 miles from the nearest coastline....
never seen many parrots here though, just the odd escaped one that always disappeared after a day or two.. hmm

Heron are quite common inland. If they know there is a pond close by with fish in it then usually you will have to cover the pond.

Re: Wild Parrots
Well I saw one once but no one believed me.Why I don't know-it's not as if I'm known for over imbibing.
Just like the time I watched a programme of indoor windsurfing. No one believed me about that either.Bluddy annoying when one can't tell a lie with a straight face and you still aren't believed.
Anyway I reckon a lot of them 'escaped' into the wild when the government of the day changed the rules about wild animals and the rules about endangered species became stricter.
Incog.

Re: Wild Parrots
Does anyone know if the wild Wallabies of Derbyshire are still around or have they all died off?
