not new, but one to show the 'backwardness'
a turkish father and his relatives have been held on possible charges of murder, after it was found there 14 year old daughter was raped, a decision was made by the father and his accomplices to 'kill' her in a honour killing, police were tipped off about the actions being taken and arrested them.
later, the father reported her missing, but confessed to the murder......

A few days after her return, the father reported her missing - but allegedly confessed to killing her later.
The Milliyet newspaper said she was strangled with a wire and buried in a forest

Re: not new, but one to show the 'backwardness'
Different religions/ races have different views on what is "right" or "proper". What seems totally unacceptable to us, seems totally correct and sensible to them.
One persons idea of what is right can often seem non-sensical to many others. This sort of behavious has, unfortunately, happened many times in the past and no doubt will happen again

Some races/ religions would see the victim of rape as beng "dis-honoured" and thus would bring dis-honour onto the family. Honour is "All" in some societies and therefore can bring some very strange "solutions" to the "problem". These solutions can be anything from the family dis-owning the victim to this terrible act of murder
No one here is trying to justify it Kronas

Re: not new, but one to show the 'backwardness'
In these cultures living with the shame of dishonour (I know as the victim to you and I we don't see how they can be dishonoured) is a fate worse than death, and they would be shocked that we in the west don't do the same, possibly even disgusted at our sick attitude of allowing the girl to live with "such shame"

Don't worry Xaccers, I know that Kronas is just discussing the news story Threads like these can often lead to mis-understandings or mis-interpretations, that's part of the fun LOL
