Diana Death Pictures
CBS showing the pictures taken of Diana as she lay dying in the car.
Not very nice, but how many times have we seen JFK get his brains blown out?

Re: Diana Death Pictures
It is funny how you'd complain if the American media do this, but the fact that the European media has been doing it for years now is A-OK.
I really don't have a problem with it. Do I care to see it? Not really. Do I care that CBS did it? Not really. Would I care if CBS showed pictures of JFK? Not really.

I just feel sorry for her sons..... Nearly seven years on, and still the media (uk and other countries) will drag up any piece of sensational dirt that they can....

Re: Diana Death Pictures
Lets forget who she was/is for the moment...
I wonder how people would react if pictures of there dead mother were published for all to see. Just becouse she was a member of the royal family it does not mean that is o.k. for here children to see the pictures.
It all comes down to respect for peoples feelings at the end of the day !

It's getting distressingly easy for threads in this forum to turn into UK v USA slanging matches lately. But this issue has got very little to do with that. CBS could be a Brazilian TV station for all I care; it is demonstrably not in the public interest for these images to have been shown. The only way in which the fact CBS is a US TV station is relevant is in any duscussion of how media decency laws view such images.
FYI, the (hypocritical IMO) British Press constantly complains about the antics of (mainly) European Papparazzi photographers harassing our Royal family with long lenses while they are holidaying overseas. America is not getting any special treatment here.

Re: Diana Death Pictures
I do believe in the free press, so I'm not about to tell CBS they shouldn't do it.
From a moral standpoint, well, that is harder. I believe if you're famous, then you're a fair target. I personally don't think what CBS did was wrong, nor can I see how you can demonstrate it is not in the public's best interest. I wouldn't be interested in it though. But then, I don't watch reality TV shows or sitcoms, so I think I'm in the minority here.

The Press is free and self-regulated over here, but even so things are viewed a little differently. For example, if challenged, it is for a newspaper to demonstrate to the Press Complaints Commission how its report served the public interest, not for the aggrieved party to prove that it was not. Also, in the UK, anybody is entitled not to fall victim to a long-lens photographer in any place where they have a reasonable expectation of privacy. Being a famous person is not enough to strip you of your right to privacy. Fame comes for all kinds of reasons, after all, and not all of them are chosen.

Re: Diana Death Pictures
The press have more respect for the currency they are going to earn than the people they victimise. And how often does any press show the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
What is worse is that society as a whole love it and allow themselves to be brainwashed by the content, as it easier to believe what is in front of them, than look beyond it.
No I wont be clicking the link

Re: Diana Death Pictures
It would be cynical to suggest that the UK media is just jealous because they would have *loved* to have published the photos but didn't dare to because the boost in circulation they would have given would probably be matched equally by a backlash against them...!

Indeed the tabloids are pretty experienced in judging this. There have been a number of editorials in the Sun where they comment that they were offered, but politely refused the pictures / story.

And just what was the point behind displaying graphical images of an event that happened in the past to a highly respected lady.
Which press office did it bears nothing to this question
I would say the object desired has been achieved.

The red tops do try to get a balance, but remember all the who har (sp??) over their headline about "sick" Bruno
And on yesterdays Express front cover there was a full page picture of poor Gloria Hunniford (sp??) in tears at her daughters funeral, sick.
All a bunch of scum really.
