Extremist cleric wins legal aid
Quote:
AN EXTREMIST Muslim cleric must be given legal aid to finance his battle to stay in Britain, a committee of senior lawyers has ruled.
Abu Hamza al-Masri, 46, the former imam of Finsbury Park mosque, had been refused public funds for his appeal against the Home Secretary’s removal of his British citizenship.
But The Times has discovered that a three-member legal panel has overturned that decision and declared that Abu Hamza is entitled to taxpayers’ money to pay for legal representation.

Abu Hamza continues to preach his brand of fundamentalist Islam and political extremism to about 200 followers on the street outside every Friday. A number of Islamist terrorists and Britons who went to fight with the Taleban in Afghanistan are known to have worshipped at the mosque.
|
Quote:
|
....he must apply to the Treasury for a special licence to receive legal aid because he is named on a UN Security Council list as an al-Qaeda associate.
|
We are a nation of mugs and fools if we allow people like this legal aid. We deserve what we get and are getting the country we deserve

Re: Extremist cleric wins legal aid
The 'problem' (if that's the right word) with a democracy is that we can't pick-and-choose who is entitled to something which the state says someone in his position (ie non-EU citizen under 'persecution' seeking to stay in the country) is allowed to claim.

Sadly this is the price of being a free and open society of the kind I suspect Hamza would like to destroy. Reluctantly, for the sake of maintaining our free society, I have to accept this decision, but a big part of me wishes that there was a clause excepting people like him.

Re: Extremist cleric wins legal aid
We are digging our own graves......
How about this then?
Quote:
A suicide bomb plot to kill thousands of soccer fans at Saturday’s Manchester United-Liverpool match was dramatically foiled yesterday.
Armed cops seized ten terror suspects in dawn raids.
Intelligence chiefs believe al-Qaeda fanatics planned to blow themselves up amid 67,000 unsuspecting supporters. A source said: “The target was Old Trafford.â€
The Islamic fanatics planned to sit all around the ground to cause maximum carnage.
They had already bought the tickets for various positions in the stadium, cops revealed last night.
But armed cops foiled the horrific plot — which could have killed thousands watching Manchester United’s home game against Liverpool on Saturday — in a series of dawn raids yesterday.
Ten people were arrested after a massive surveillance operation involving British anti-terror units and American authorities.
A police source said: “The plot involved several individual bombers in separate parts of the stadium.
“If successful, any such attack would have caused absolute carnage. Thousands of people could have been killed.â€
The planned attack would have had an instant global impact as the game is being televised worldwide

Abu Hamza is an EU citizen as he has British citizizenship via his marriage.

Re: Extremist cleric wins legal aid
If the rumour was true that Old Trafford was the target then I say a massive 'well done' to the intelligence people for being able to foil the plan.
With a guaranteed full-house of 67,000 the death toll could easily have surpassed 9/11.

In which case he will still have a right to appeal against deportation, something which a democracy allows as a right.

I can't say its surprised me. This is the softest country in the world. We have people born here that go fighting British soldiers and have nothing done to them when they come back home. We have others who burn the Union Jack in public and have nothing happen to them. We allow everyone to abuse our health service and benefits service, The list goes on and on so this is nothing new

Well there's plenty of alternative countries in the world, although we do have a habit of invading them.

Re: Extremist cleric wins legal aid
I am continually apalled that our free and open society is repeatedly taken for a ride by shysters/terrorists/terror sympathisers etc and we can do nothing about it. The level of freedom we give these people will be our undoing.

By that logic communist countries should have out lived us.
Yes it's tedious, yes it's expensive, but that's a free democracy.

I've lost count how many times I've said this but its only going to change when people who come to live here learn to abide by our ways and stop trying to live in the place they have just come from. For instance why dress the way some do. There no longer in a hot country. Why speak Arabic infront of everyone. These tight nit community's need to be broken up and opened to the main stream British way of life. I know the do gooders are going to come out to play now and I just feel sorry for them. Its them after all that have helped keep things this way.

Take a look at British ex-pats, you don't see them adopting all of the traditions and customs of the country they move to. Some of the ex-pat communities in places like Spain are virtually identical to English coastal towns. We are hardly in a position to comment.
