euro referendum to happen ?

a poll has been created so vote if you wish........

well it seems tony blair could be about to concede defeat and create a referendum so 'the people' can choose on whether they want to join europe or not.......personally i think its about time tony stepped up to issues involving the 'public' that voted him in........

ok the article doe snot really say that there will be one, but he has no real choice, if the majorty wants to keep out of the EU then why go against them........

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3635943.stm

it seems the torys would want a renogotiation if they get voted in to the euro elections.....

I personally think that we should go into the euro as it would make life a lot easier for doing online buying with other countries in the EEC with the added bonus if you go abroad a lot for holidays or for what ever reason then you do not have the annoyance of changing your currency going into the other countries or coming back into this one

there is really no need to go in to the selfish shopping and buying aspect of a single currency, thats not the question, to put it in to perspective, if you look at the 'potential' constituion its the buidling blocks of creating one huge version of the united states, it wont simply work because each economy in europe needs its own 'interest rates' to help its own GDP growth, the constitution itself is handing power to europe to 'centralize' everything.....

Re: euro referendum to happen ?

Shut up and consider the benfits which are large instead of used media talk. I go to France a lot of the Euro is great also it is give a lot of benfit to those countrys.

Also Kronas about your point about tony blair stepping up to the issues that the people voted him in. What the hell is that about HEWAS VOTED IN TO RUN THE COUNTRY how long before every thing requires a vote and a public inquiry? If you dont like the policys vote against labour in the next election.

One other point is the amount of people that get there news and views via the tabloids so they are not getting the full picture and voting would be unfair

If we go into europe on the terms they have now we will not need any pms as they will be euro puppets and all our gold reserves will be in germany vaults...

Re: euro referendum to happen ?

Been against this from day one. The Germans and the French are the one's running the union. Its a bloody joke. How much do we have to give them now each year 11 billion or more. I'd prefer us teaming up with the US. We'd be much better off and there gateway into Europe.

This guy has his head on right. He is going to RESERCH the issue and make a informed idea of what he wants.

Why dont people do that instead of getting their news from the bloody mirror.

Why pretend to team up with country's that have always been fighting each other and us. The people's of most of those country's have not forgotten discounting decent one's like Holland. At least the US has always been our friend and always there when we needed them. They even offered us help in the Falklands war even though we turned it down and Argentina was friends with them. Old Chinese proverb don't stab your friend in the back!

Ps as the UK is the second highest payer to the kitty we'd be the second highest contributing to the poorer countries. Your's & my taxe's paying to help out other countries yet again when there's things over here that need doing first. I'm sure I don't have to remind anyone that the economy is supposed to be thriving now yet the government are borrowing billions which have to be paid back. Paid back by who you ask. Paid back by YOU!

I suggest that you calm down and post a little less aggressivley please - there is no need to tell people to "shut up" as in your previous post to the one above. People are entitled to post their views in this forum without rude outbusts.

Re: euro referendum to happen ?

I think the poll is misleading, because Britain is part of Europe and will still be part of Europe regardless of if we have this referendum. The question that should be asked is should we sign the EU constition as it is now.

This is a vast document which is very difficult to get your head round. The best thing to do is not believe everything you read in the papers as you only get half the story but to research things using lots of different sources to make an imformed opinion.

As such I don't know what I would vote.

I don't know enough about what is in it, either, I hope a referendum will make clear the issues & the consequences of an European constitution - as you rightly say, Scooby, we need to be aware of the debate from all sides.

it might be interesting to research some of the 1975, Common Market referendum press reports?
