Bin Laden offers truce
Quote:
Arab television stations have broadcast a new audio tape purportedly from Osama bin Laden offering a truce with European states if they stop attacking Muslims.
The voice said: "I offer a truce to them (Europe) with a commitment to stop operations against any state which vows to stop attacking Muslims or interfere in their affairs... "
The offer, said the voice, would not be available to the United States and is open for three months. It would start with the withdrawal of the "last soldier from our land".
The tape was broadcast by the Dubai-based Al-Arabiya channel and then the Al-Jazeera television station, based in Qatar.

Re: Bin Laden offers truce
What???
There should be no negotiation with terrorists IMO.
Easy for me to say I know, but for the long term good of the world, I think we should tell him to take his truce, & politely poke it somewhere.

I have a truce for him !!!
He can hold the hand grenade and I will hold the pin
Even if there was a truce - would he keep to his word ?

Re: Bin Laden offers truce
Could be a scam. We don't know for sure if he's still alive after all, we've not seen any evidence which shows him having survived the bombings. There have been audio clips which could have been anyone and the videos we've seen could have been filmed anytime.

yeah
once again we see the paradox of a bloke with a hatred of making images of humans - and yet a yearning for stardom on the silver screen

So you think that what happened in N. Ireland was wrong?!? because we sat down and talked to the terrorists?
What I find starnge about this is, how he can expect to be able to stop all the activities of the groups that work under the Al-Qaeda flag, as it is not an organisatin that has clear structure.

Correct.
If they are using the cell method then 1 cell will not have any idea what another cell is planing. This means command and control is far harder, imho

A difficult question to answer, so I'll try to tread carefully....
I believe that negotiating with any terrorist is wrong-yes. I believe that long term you reap the benefits of not negotiating (a la Northern Ireland) I'm not sure how old you are Scoob, but I am old enough to remember the IRA, & living in fear as a child of going to London on a day out for fear of being blown up.
The thing is-30 odd years down the line, & then we have proved that negotiation must be done on our terms, not the terrorists-despite all the lives lost in the meantime.
Like I said, that's easy for me to say, as I haven't lost anyone due to terrorism, I might feel differently if I had.

He is bluffing-the thing he 'boasted' about was that there were so many cells, that even if they killed him, the cells were just muliplying without his input, & now he wants to offer us a truce???
So how is he going to now control those cells to stop them attacking us, when a while ago they were multiplying without his input?
