Unhappy HELP ME PLZ!! Connection Sharing

HELP!

Excactly a week ago today we had our cable modem installed, we were told at the time that setting up connection sharing would be simple!! What a Joke!!

We have signed up for the 600k service with the additional PS2 pack. We also have a Belkin router that should be capable of allowing the connection to be shared.

My first attempt at getting everything working was to try and install the Broadjump cd on each. This worked fine for the 1st PC but on reaching the 2nd/3rd/4th the error message 'unable to renew IP address' appeared.

I have found that it is possible to install the CD on the other machines if the modem is turned off and rebooted and the other PC's disconnected. However i can only have 2 machines (be it PC+PS2 or PC+PC) running at the same time. I am guessing that this is due to the fact that we only have two IP addresses assigned to us.

I have a limited knowlege of things, but have friends who have set up ICS on their PC's (with different ISP's) and said they found it easy!! If anyone has any idea why ntl should be so different and how i can share my connection it would be greatly appreciated as i'm going off my food and i'm sure i'm starting to lose hair!!!!!!

Hope someone out there can help!!!!

Thanks

Matt

A great big to the site MattVeale

You dont need to install broadjump on all the pc's - once you have registered the service you dont need the software on any pc.

Power down the cable modem and router. Then power up the router / let it settle down and then power up the router.

Start up the pc's and they should have an ip in the range of 192 ect....

Edit - Even though you have two IP's you only need one if you are using a router so you can cancel the dual ip service with ntl...

The router simulates a pc connected to the modem and then passes on the data so you only need one IP

Re: HELP ME PLZ!! Connection Sharing

Create the connection to one PC

Clone the MAC to the router

If you have a problem with that, report back and tell us which area you live in

Re: HELP ME PLZ!! Connection Sharing

Just in case u haven't realised, Cable Modem>Router>PC1,PC2 etc. As stuartbe says, forget the CD, switch everything off, plug modem into WAN port of router, allother PC's into LAN ports, power up modem , then Router, last PC's, should usually be good to go with default settings, oh , if you have ICS turned on, turn it off.

Re: HELP ME PLZ!! Connection Sharing

Hi guys me again, still having problems getting this working. In internet connections i have deleted all connections and in LAN settings put automatically detect. In network connections should i specify an IP address or have it automatically detected?

If i need it to be specified does each PC need a seperate one, such as 192.168.1.1 for PC1 and 192.168.1.2 for PC2?

I also didn't understand one of the comments about the MAC address, i know where to find this but havent a clue what it is or how to clone it to the router!! Any more help guys plz!!!!!

Re: HELP ME PLZ!! Connection Sharing

Its up to you, you can let the router assign the IP's or do it manually (will remain fixed then) each PC a different one exactly as you said. You need to get to the setup page of the router, I'm not famiiar with Belkin but usually you put it's IP address (it has it's own, like 192.168.0.1) into a web browser then login using default admin username & password, should all be in the docs for the router. I'm not sure you will need to clone the PC MAC address to the router but worth a try if you have probs. You should also put in the routers IP address in the 'Default Gateway' entry in the network setup on each PC.

O.K. First things first.... Have you powered down the cable modem, router and pc's ?

Do this first. Then power up the cable modem and wait for it to settle. Then power up the router and then one pc. THe pc should get a lease from the router.

You can remove the mac cloning as this is not needed.....

Let me know what happens !

Edit - Is this the model you have ? - http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...%2EyRouters%2F
