Question Uploading from iPhoto (Mac) - Need Proxy

Hi,

I've just updated my Mac OS from jaguar to panther and I've lost a proxy setting.

I can't successfully upload images from iPhoto to my webspace, they are corrupting. I used to have a proxy set for uploading (either http or ftp not sure what it was) and I can't remember what the name was? I'm sure I found it on here a year or 2 ago.

Any other Mac users had this issue?

There are not that many mac users on here that would be able to help. There are one or two but they are usualy online in the evenings....

The proxy that you had - Was it an ntl proxy ????

Yes it was... given to me by someone here. It wasn't of the 'cache1-glfd...' format though.

Without it, I can't ftp anything without it corrupting.

That does not make sense m8.... Ntl proxy servers dont cache ftp !!!

It cant have been an ntl proxy server !

This is a commonly reported problem with the transparent web caches.

iPhoto is unlikely to be using FTP, so I expect that your problem is with HTTP uploads. These can most times be fixed by specifying an explicit web proxy from amongst the NTL stock, the list of which can be viewed here

Hi,

Problem solved. get your narest proxy server from this list:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d...html#trancache

and add it to your web proxy settings under, Sys Prefs>Network>NTL>Proxy.

Result

A minor point, but actually it may not be a problem with the caches per se but rather an issue with the local transparent cache redirection mechanism e.g. Cisco's WCCP routers or Layer 4/7 switches.

Naturally the proxies are more tangible and usually get blamed first. Specifying a direct proxy will 'fix' the issue temporarily until the cache's ip address changes or it is unavailable.
Of course ntl can't investigate these problems unless they know which location is affected.

Hi, sorry for not spotting you earlier! I'm glad Robin had some advice for you as I have never experienced any problems with iPhoto. I have at times had proxies explicitly set, and at other times I've run satisfactorily without them.

There are a few Mac users around here so don't be afraid to post issues and questions - I have on a number of occasions and I usually get useful responses!
