OK I know win ME is a prob in itself but a friend who is stuck with it has a problem which has got me stumped. I hope the solution is obvious but I just cant see it!!!
When she looks in 'my docs' she can see thumbnails of pictures. When she tries to open them she gets an error saying that win ME cant find the file. weird?????
sounds like the old 16/32 bit file naming problem where 9X gets confused and can't follow long folder names.
Now if only I can remember how to fix it...
May help to change the view settings for the folder to show icons or details rather than thumbnails. Also change from the default that hides file extensions of known file types so she can check the files are files and not links to files which no longer exist.
Also if this is a new problem it could be worth checking to see if a system restore to an earlier date will sort the problem.
She did a right click and told ME to open the files in PSP (which is what they were created in so why it slipped is anyones guess) and now they are working fine.
Could be worth them doing a full antivirus scan to be safe, just in case the change was induced by a virus, as some can play tricks with which program opens which files.
It could be this was the cause but the AV caught the culprit after it made the change hence the program ME was looking to activate wasn't present on the system now.
