I have all my icons in the shortcuts folder. But then that does add another step to loading things. I know someone who has so many icons on his desktop they are overflowing onto his second monitor.

The idea is to "un"-tick the box (for a desktop shortcut) when you install new programs

My desktop has precisely *two* icons, "My computer" and "Recycle Bin" and that's the way I like it!
(Unfortunately I can't show it to the rest of you as the pic I use as wallpaper is a little bit rude  )

Here is mine of today, going with a modded luna theme, and large icons, with a bliss styled wallpaper.
All effects turned off on computer apart from drop shadows and themes.
Toying with getting Yztoolbar working though.
