Hard drive about to die???
I have a problem with my hard drive. Occasionally when I start my computer it says "Your hard drive may have a problem". When I reset it it says it again. But when I unplug it from the mains supply and restart, it goes into Windows no problem.... any ideas what could be causing this? Seems weird that every time I unplug at the mains it is fine...?

Re: Hard drive about to die???
That looks like the message you get just before it runs scandisk. If you are getting that message you need to make sure your PC is shutting down fully and properly and no applications are hanging.
What O/s is it and if it's Windows XP have you any entries in the event log?

Re: Hard drive about to die???
The message is spoken to me by my hard drive. It is in a stupid yank voice. And no, I'm not on drugs!

Do full virus check then as this is not "Usual" behaviour and HD's don't talk, this sounds more like some prank batch file being run on boot up to me.

The wonders of modern technology As Sociable has pointed out this is not normal, start scanning your system. The only noise I get from my drive is whining.... Not gonna say a word about that though LOL

Re: Hard drive about to die???
A lot of new motherboards have the facility to speak problems to you at boot up time, rather than the old beep system, so it is quite possible his computer is speaking to him!

Re: Hard drive about to die???
I have a ASUS MB that does this or it did until I disabled the voices! - I think my reason was using a ATA133 HDD on a ATA100 interface. Never had a problem with the HDD and it's still running 12 months later.
You could always replace the message with "The world is fine spinning the way it is".
Recommend that you perform a backup of you're important data though just in case!

Re: Hard drive about to die???
As a last resort you could always consider reading the manual for the system.
Desperate move I know but if all else is getting nowhere it may be your only hope .

Best when you get the "Processor Failure" messages and the PC continues to boot up!

Was a serious suggestion though as, if such a feature does exist, I can't see any supllier not shouting about it whether that be via the mobo or otherwise.
