webcam upload software

Can anybody recommend any software to upload or even stream the output of a webcam to my website. the problem I have is I have a dynamic ip address so any request for the webcam image from my website relies on the client knowing my ip address (which keeps changing)
or as an alternative is there any way to automatically update the webpage with the new ip address as it changes.

all suggestions welcome, thanks.

the page with the problem webcam image (which is still failing to work 90% of the time) is here

Re: webcam upload software

If you have a Creative webcam, then they do a programme (the imaginatively titled 'webcam monitor') which can upload images to a website via FTP at regular intervals. Actually, it can do more clever things like upload a pic when it detect movement, but I'll let you play with that

this appears to be primarily designed for static ip address. the site says you need advanced skills to use it with proxy firewalls and dynamic ip networks.
this does not sound like me

I think you need to to sign up for a free account here
http://www.dyndns.org/ its the "Dynamic DNS service " you need
and then install a small bit of software, which updates that account with your current IP adress
I use this S/w
DeeEnEs (there are others too)
Wont give you a fixed ip address but will give you adomain name which will always be mapped to your changing IP address
Should do the trick

I have just been looking at dyndns and now that somebody has recommended them
I think I will sign up, if I can't see a catch anywhere.

Re: webcam upload software

No catches - I've used them for a year or more, they've not had, nor asked for a penny so far.

I did use another free one before but they decided to ...

"... introduce a paid model structure, we hope to align DNS2Go more with our target audience ..."

so I decided to 'realign' myself with another provider - namely dyndns

Re: webcam upload software

Hello again, my tinkering with webcams is progressing, I now have another question for all you helpful people.
is there anyway to automatically notify people by email when the webcam is online?
should they request such a thing.
is it even possible to have a website automatically send out emails?

thanks
