Re: Vista compatability
Its a brand new Dell e520 and works brilliantly apart from the canon issue, so havnt delved too far. Have already gone with zingalebarbs idea off powering up after reboot as as a temp fix. Have to say vista seems to take a lot longer than xp to load the drivers for new found hardware! perhaps it just tells you more about what its doing?

Re: Vista compatability
Whilst I don't use Vista myself, I just thought I'd mention that if anyone else uses Caligari trueSpace 7 & has had problems trying to get it to work with Vista, there is apparently a fix posted on their forum [in the Tech section].
Apparently it's some sort of OpenGL compatibility issue, & as I understand it the fix just basically disables OpenGL capability [it can still do DirectX]. Vista isn't officially supported as an OS to use with tS by Caligari as yet, it's more of a "this should fix it, but if not we never actually said it would work with Vista" sort of thing.

If you expect better or the same level MIDI support in Vista as from 2000/XP, think again. The MIDI control panel is gone - literally - gone. You can no longer change what the MIDI out device is, so unless your software can set the output manually, you're stuck with the Microsoft SoftSynth (which is absolutely pants).
Also, gameport support is removed - so you'd better get a USB to MIDI cable if you want to even try MIDI on Vista (this also means people with joysticks that use the gameport are now screwed).
Because of those reasons I went back to 2000.

Re: Vista compatability
Interesting to see how it develops. I have an Audigy though not an X-fi (I wish...) It needs sorting though.
I'm not really a gamer, I use the card for music and stuff.

Re: Vista compatability
TweakVI - I don't like it. Vista however is great, and apart from the lack of a decent third party firewall with outbound monitoring, I've not found anything that doesn't work yet.

Oh and the sound drivers are great, the GamePort works too - needs a different inf file, if anyone wants it, I have it.

Re: Vista compatability
Strange you said that I couldn't get my (admittedly not the best) SoundMAX integrated card to work with Vista so switched back to XP.

Re: Vista compatability
I have an Audigy though. Integrated audio can sometimes be fussy.

Re: Vista compatability
Hmm, i had the beta of that, might investigate the full one.
FWIW, PC Tools firewall Plus is a decent Vista product with outbound filtering.

and it's free

Re: Vista compatability
Zonealarm appears to be out of beta for Vista now 32 bit only again
Direct link to downloader
---------- Post added at 16:08 ---------- Previous post was at 14:59 ----------
Vista Firewall does actually have full control of inbound and outbound connections but by default the control of outbound connections are disabled
Im not sure but I think these controllers actually just work with whats built in but could be wrong. 32 and 64 bit versions available
Tested 64 bit with leaktest and it blocked it. Will be a bit of a pain like zonealarm having to define connections as they first occur but least it works and isnt bloaty
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5577 64 bit
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5578 32 bit

Re: Vista compatability
I didn't like VFC, too many bugs like not remembering some of the choices.
And IMO, ZA used to be decent, but is so bloated. I'm waiting for Kerio or Comodo.
