Re: Vista compatability

yeah thats what I mean your right. Ive only ever had 3 Intels as my main machine since I started building ,First was a 2.8 gig northwood I think was the name 478 pin with hiperthreading of course that on a lan party board was by far the best cpu at the time having to compete with the Thoroughbred and Barton cores which were very nice cpus were well beat once the clawhammer 3200 with 1 meg of cache was bought and built around a nice board but cant remember what skt 754 which was the best I could buy as the next cpu was the fx 50(I think ) which needed skt 940 and ecc ram. Then of course the skt 939 3800 i had then the x2 and now the c2d's(had a p4d805 in there too but dont count that cuz it was to good for what it was so I cant simply believe it existed lol )

Which version? 1.4 doesn't work, but the latest release - 1.5_09, seems OK. Using it instead of Oracle's JInitiator (which is based on Sun 1.3 and doesn't work) to run Oracle forms.

Re: Vista compatability

Solved my resolution problems within Vista. On the 3 previous occassions ive installed the operating system ive had my TV out plugged into my CRT TV so something there screwed it up and only allowed my HD monitor to have default resolution only at 1280/1024
How I solved this problem well I bought a Wii and left pc unplugged from tv desided to install vista and attempt to force res with powerstrip(thanks for info KeithWalton) However it just worked time so all I needed to do was unplug tv (zing = noob)

Re: Vista compatability

Yea I made the mistake of buying it before the drivers were out of beta
Soon as it was installed I had issues with both the graphics card and sound card

Re: Vista compatability

Had a conflict issue with nero 7.5.1 causing a com crash (god knows) when browsing a video folder with thumbnails solved by system restor back and installation of 7.7.5.1

Also has GUI error with powerdvd 7 causing program to crash solved by installing 7.2.

Re: Vista compatability

Brilliant thread.

I've installed Vista Home Basic today and it seems to be working fine with my low end machine. I'm no gamer so don't have much need for high end GFX, and the machine I have doesn't even have an AGP slot..

Intersting point and handy for the thread I hope:
I discovered Intel haven't and probably won't release Vista drivers for my Intel 82845G onboard graphics chipset so I was stuck with 800x600 at 16 bit which was most disappointing. I tried installing the XP drivers and it took them, but threw up an error in Device Manager and reverted to standard VGA drivers. I had a mooch about in the driver folder in XP and copied the .sys file over to Vista and rebooted.
Happily, all was perfect from there on. the max 1024x768 at 32 bit is now available as is the full range of refresh rates for my ageing but rather nice AOC LCD monitor.

I had installed Nero v7.5.9.0A on the beta and found it to work well. I've yet to try on this. I'll report back when I do.

Re: Vista compatability

This is a note for anyone who fins this on your internet scoring for a driver for a WG111V2 from Netgear.

Before you upgrade get your hands on the Realtek RTL8187 drivers and keep them handy for after Vista installs.

These work better than the current (beta) Netgear drivers i have found.

I then discovered i had dropouts and slow throughput with these drivers, to sort this got Device Manager, find the Realtek RTL8187 Device under Network Connections, right click, goto properties, click the Advanced tab in the window that pops up and in the Channel Plan Property change it to ETSI.

I dont think the Auto-Detect function works too well...

Enjoy...
