Anyone got a link please for a Win XP Home / XP Pro command line client file?

Just had a look myself - it does look complicated

If you haven't already run BOINC on the machine, you'll need to run through the setup procedure (using either the CLI or the GUI client) in order to establish the account* files which are needed for the project URLs and authenticators.
|
I thought that you might be able to do this once and then somehow distribute the files to each machine, but the bottom of the page at this URL http://homepage.mac.com/pauldbuck/si...p-install.html implies otherwise.
Also a section here http://boinc.berkeley.edu/create_project.php on compiling the BOINC software, but it's far from clear and complete. One of the problems is that you have the core software and then the WU crunching software for the various projects. Having built software like Apache on a Unix box I know that the instructions for doing the same thing on a Windows machine are akin to black magic Windows just complicates everything.
I'll have a rummage - see if any forums have a recipe. It's a shame BOINC is so complex to install on multiple machines.

Sorry! Trust me to pick totally the wrong time to be serious

I read the mailing list archives and it does seem that the people behind the projects are struggling with the BOINC framework. Wouldn't fancy it myself - I think BOINC has a long way to go.

Re: Team SETI@cableforum
Well version 4 is in beta testing stages (or alpha, can't remember)
So prepare for a big update. When this update is out then ClimatePrediction switches to BOINC, and so am I

Re: Team SETI@cableforum
Just remembered that there is a command line version bundled with the GUI download. I forgot about it I remember trying it with some Predictor WUs - it crashed and the WUs were returned with client error status. The BOINC pages must be very dated.

Re: Team SETI@cableforum
Hmm..we're currently at 110th position in the world.
Not too bad, considering we're beating IBM.

We're 100th if you sort the table on Total Credit
[edit] 219th on Predictor and we've passed the 1000 WU mark

Re: Team SETI@cableforum
Hmm, I think I'll join Predictor too.
SETI is down so often that I might as well.
EDIT: Forget that, they've disabled new registrations.
Unless you can PM me the URL details etc to join until they allow new users?

Re: Team SETI@cableforum
We are now currently 221st so we've dropped a few places, but I think the stats are screwed anyway I'm sure I have more credit on predictor than listed.

Re: Team SETI@cableforum
"July 28, 2004
The project is currently down. We found a bug in the scheduling code such that returned results were not being updated in the database. We are now running a fix script on the DB, marking each affected result as unsent so that it will be resent. Unfortunately, credit was not given for results affected by the bug."
 Here we go again
