Re: Team SETI@cableforum
I've given up because I need ALL my processor power for my 3D rendering...

Note that some of the details may have changed a little, for example the boinc client is now up to version 4.45.
I'm not sure how active anyone is anymore
There are other boinc based projects now online, such as Einstein (an astronomy something), but CF hasn't developed a team for that since everything quietened down.

Thanks Rob, I've joined

Re: Team SETI@cableforum
I started using my PC to search for ET about a week ago now. I joined the CF team and put my spare processing power to work. My PC happily crunched away for about 80 hours over a five day period, but my stats show me to have done nothing. The last two pieces of work were completed yesterday but don't seem to be uploading to Boinc. I have joined the einstein project now as I have not recieved any more SETI work units and don't want my processor to get cold.

Hi FatSnake, it takes a while to get credited for your work but at the moment it's worse than usual.
They have had a failure on their system. See below.
Outage Update: We have been offline since Tuesday, August 23 and plan to stay offline at least until Friday. This is because of a disk failure as well as an unwieldy backlog of results to validate and delete. We apologize for the inconvenience, but credit that has been pending for weeks is now being granted. We want to be as "caught up" as possible before coming back on line. More information in (Then follows a link to the info)
This above is on their home page.
Even in periods of no outages, work credit is very slow. I routinely have two pages of completed work awaiting credit when I look on the Project/Your Results page. And of course, due to the after effect of the outage, have two completed units awaiting upload like yourself at present. However, they do eventually get credited.
It used to annoy the s*** out of me as well when I first joined, then I sat back and thought "Hell, I'm looking for ET, I need to show patience.â€
Even so, I would be interested to hear how you get on with the Einstein project ‘cause I never did find the patience! Please keep me posted.

Re: Team SETI@cableforum
Nice to see a bit of activity on the old team
To reiterate what eric@ has said, seti boinc does work, but validation of completed WUs is sporadic. Seti is such a big project, with a lack of funding that their hardware struggles to keep pace. Outages are common and then it takes a long while to recover. After outages so many are trying to connect that saturation oftern ocurrs again adding to frsutration.
All seti projects, excepting CPDN, validate your results but comparison agains two or three other computer submissions for teh same WU. Theat needs everybody to complete before you can get credit, as well as the server hardware being on line. As a result most people build up some "pending results". You get credit eventually, it's just frustrating when you start as you don't get anywhere fast.
Just remember though, you are doing this for the science. The credit is a byproduct
Eisntein is a smaller project than seti, but WUs tyrpically take longer to crunch. It seems quite stable and now that it is established credit for WUs does flow reasonably well. However the deadlines for retuning WUs are quiote short, so do not allow your cache to be much more than 2 days.
It is now always worth having two boinc projects attached, even if you favour one inthe priorities, controlled via the your accoutn settings accessed through the project website settings. that way you PC should never go idel when one has an outage. Don't worry if WUs completed will not upload, leave them there. the boinc software will send them when the servers come back online.

I'm taking part in the Einstein@Home project at the moment. I'm still waiting for Planet Quest to go up so I can search for planets

Re: Team SETI@cableforum
Thanks for the enlightenment. I don't mind waiting for credit I was just a bit concerned that my work was not going back to where it was supposed to be going and I was wasting my time.
I will now continue my crunching

Re: Team SETI@cableforum
A heads up for anyone left who might still be runing the original seti@home (not the boinc version). It's days are now very much numbered and it looks set to finally close mid December 2005.
For many months now new signups could only be on the boinc platform, and client software is now alos unavailable from the seti site.
As one of the pioneers of mass distributed computing, it's demise marks the end of an era.

Re: Team SETI@cableforum
The majority of the original classic seti@home site is now broken, and likely to remain so as they wind the project up. Some time ago the url to the classic site changed, so many links in this thread will have died.
Correct link is here: http://setiathome2.ssl.berkeley.edu/...am_185810.html
If you are not already running seti@home classic, you can no longer join it. Also you cannot change teams now.
Anyone interested in running seti@home should now run the boinc version. http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/ The Cable Fourm Team link is http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/team_...?teamid=112396

Re: Team SETI@cableforum
I've been on quite a few projects so far. There's tons out there now, and more continue to develope. Perhaps the thread should be re-newed with project links and links to the CableForum team so new users can find the information they need easier?

Re: Team SETI@cableforum
All the links I've given above are valid, however berkeley (frequently refered to as borkley due to their infamous outages), are having diffficulties due to the classic to boinc transition. Hence server connections can be very intermittent.
